A few weeks ago I was passing by the dumpy laundromat down the street from my house and noticed that the place was all torn apart and new machines were being installed! I was thrilled! So today I made up an excuse to go there and wash something that won't fit in my Queen at home, so I brought the huge comforter from the guest bedroom.

They had two Dexter T-900 60 Ib machines installed, and 6 stacked 30 Ib Dexter dryers. The owner decided to leave one old stacked SQ set at the end. My comforter would've fit in the 40 Ib Speed Queen just fine but I decided to cough up the extra $1.75 and take the new Dexter for a whirl (I had never used a Dexter before). I put my load in, added the detergent and started it up. I set it to hot. It started filling through the detergent compartment on cold and did so for a few minutes, then it stopped and started filling with hot water internally, once that was done the add bleach indicator came on and then it purged the detergent compartment with hot water and then it was off on its wash cycle. I can't say to the exact cycle times but the total cycle time was around 29 minutes. It did I think two rinses and then when it was time for the spin cycle I noticed Dexter is using a variable speed motor, so it reminds me much of a resi FL'er except that it gets right down to business. It squeaked a bit as it got up to full speed and then it stopped after a couple minutes, I was kinda surprised to hear such a new machine squeak like that.

When it came to drying I stuffed everything in the 30 Ib Dexter and turned it on (really nothing special there). I notice the burner is spark ignition and it lights as soon as you hit the start button. Unfortunately the dryer was too small and I had to keep adjusting the comforter so it would dry evenly. I was disappointed that the owner didn't get a couple of 60 Ib tumblers to go with the T-900's. I did notice the dryer on high heat didn't run very hot like the old SQ's did to the point where the clothes may as well have been on fire when they came out.

Later on while I was talking to the owner, a mom and her daughter came in and brought in this massive avalanche of laundry with them and filled all five TL SQ's, a Horizon, AND stuffed one of the T-900's FULL. I also got a whiff of wet dog when I went past their dirty laundry... I didn't stick around long enough to see how much they'd try to cram into a single dryer. Also I now know what a TL SQ with a bad bearing sounds like...
