Most of you know Ron Jones was one of my very best friends, Donald and I have been in close contact with his parents, today we spent all day helping his Mother go thru his house, Ron was their only child, and his Dad is not well, so they are to say the least, overwhelmed, Ron has a 2 car garage FULL of appliances, Mr and Mrs Jones have until the third week of January to clear out his house ,I don't have the time as I took a bunch of vacation in December, Here is the deal, if anyone could go to Rockingham NC before Jan 15 or 20th, there is a treasure trove of stuff, They don't want a fortune, I'm sure any fair offer will not be refused,Here is a PARTIAL listing
1863 Turquoise Frigidaire Imperial bottom freezer fridge, Left hand door,
1958 Frigidaire Custom Imperial double oven range in PINK...This belonged to Billy Grahams Mother..Also a matching range in yellow
1967 Custonm Imperial Frigidaire range in avocado..2 oven.
1961 Frigidaire stainless Coustom Imperial double wall oven and cooktop
2 1-18s Crown..
Kenmore Frogeye dryer
several center dial Maytag sets
MT Round wringer
1-18 Dryer
FL Kenmore washer..
Newer black Duet washer
80s center dial KM dryer
63 Lady Kenmore washer..Coppertone
68 Kenmore 3 speed washer
This is ONLY a very few, the garage is PACKED!!!
Also a 62 Turquoise FD Deluxe washer that Ron had sold, it needs to be picked up if possible, I told his Mother I would coordinate this, They have had too much stress already and cant handle a bunch of phone calls....Also..TONS of cookware and mixers,,etc..If no one responds it will probable be sold either to a auction co, or heaven forbid, scrap..Guys LET ME KNOW..Its going to have to be something like a mini meet, Everthing is going to have to be cleared out to get to whats in the back..its so full you cant walk!!!You will be responsible for moving all this stuff and loading it..Please guys, I hope we can show our support and clear this stuff out, The money will help them pat Rons bills...

Calling All Locals!

trainguy's profile picture

Hans,

I don't know how to search locations in the member profile section, but just from seeing posts, I believe that there are at least a dozen or so collectors/operators within a 2 hour's drive of Rockingham. Wouldn't it be nice for everyone to get together and buy a few things to help out this family? Although I still have a full storage unit in Pittsburgh, I'm interested in buying a few items to help out.

C'mon guys...let's do this!

Ok Guys

You all get together and see what weekend works and I will contact his parents and get the time set up, I don't have a camera anymore, but that garage is so full you couldn't take pictures anyway, The turquoise FR Deluxe washer is sold, everything else is fair game..

I may be interested in the Coppertone Lady Kenmore. Ron had talked to me several times about it. But, since I have so little room, if someone else has their heart set on it, I will easily acquiesce to them.

Also, for those of you who want something but can't get down here for a while, I may be able to pick something up and hold it for you in my basement. I am about 2 hours from Rockingham. If I go down there to get the Coppertone Lady Kenmore, I would probably go the weekend of January 7th.

If anyone wants to talk to me about picking something up for them and holding it for a few months, email me off line (Mark@LTServe.com).

Checking

Does anyone know if the machines are in working order or are they in need of repair? Also, if one of the Kenmore washers has a manual lint filter, I am interested. Leaving town for Tampa for New Year celebration so can't come this weekend.

Bob, I'm glad you got in on this. I was going to call you. I wish I had room to take something but I'm as full as I can get and still walk in the basement to use my machines. As all of you know I'm covered up this time of year. Miss all of you, can't wait to get together again!

Re Machines

As to the condition, I imagine some work and some don't, Ron was like me, he liked working on smalls but not large appliances, I know the pink stove works, all but the clock, I rewired most of it and everything INCLUDING the Heat Minder and Speed Heat work! All lights too.I will be talking to his Mother and if OK with her, I will give you all her number, but please guys, She has NO CLUE about individual machines..what they are or if they work, They have had a terrible shock and loss and so I ask that you don't pressure them, I know most of you well enough to know you are honest and professional, I will be working the next 2 weekends so I wont be able to come down to Rockingham,I do hope some of this stuff can be saved..Thanks guys, I will let you know more tomorrow..Off to work now.."1am!"

Hey Tyler,

I'm going to call these people as soon as I get their number. The more the merrier and it will help them out. If you come through Rock Hill, we can either go together or follow each other if you have a truck to haul some items. I can only fit 2-3 on my Ranger.

Hey guys,

I'm willing to help! I certainly don't need any more machines, but would be glad to help with the labor and maybe my truck and appliance dolly. I have a Ranger too, and same as Rich, 2-3 pieces max (I am most comfortable with 2 so I can keep the tailgate up).

Tyler - if you want to use this trip to pick-up the machine I have for you, that'd be great!

Depending what that 80s dryer is, I might be interested in that though. Please let me know when you have a calendar date lined up.

Hi Gordon,

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd buy the 1-18's to save them from the recycler and fix them up if needed for other members. I was certain that I remembered a few posts about guys in Charlotte wanting to start a collection. I have another WO-65-2 unimatic coming from Pittsburgh the end of January to make room for. I don't have any room at all in my storage unit in PA. I just hate to see good machines scrapped. We all need to keep in touch about this and save what we can and help Ron's parents.

Hi guys

Feel free to email me or message me on Automatic washer. Unfortunately, I do not go through Rock Hill. Gordon, I will be glad to pick up that machine. What I'm thinking about doing is getting a rental truck and a storage place. I would be willing to haul some machines, help move them, and will even store them for anyone who needs it.
My email is gsohoover@yahoo.com. I will give out my number to those who ask.
Take care everyone!

I just tried to email you guys - Donald, Hans and Mark also for potential storage(?) , but seems the email system is dicking me around... (just my luck...)

BUT - I'm definitely on the hunt for a really NICE matching pair of high end Maytags... (remembering I don't have the skills to fix anything more than a light bulb) If there is something that doesn't need work - I'm certainly in the market... Keep me in mind...?

I can only imagine what this is like to go through... If you need an ear - you guys have my number... Warm bear hugs to all from Ohio fellas...

Mrs. Jones said that we may go over to Ron's house this Saturday, January 7, 2017 from about 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM +/-. If you don't have the address, please write to me as I'd prefer not to post it on here.

Would someone be able to bring a camera, take pics, and post them on the site for everyone's benefit? She said that he had tone of vacuums, mixers, dishes, etc. as well as large appliances.

I'm looking forward to meeting you there.

Thanks,

Weather for Charlotte tomorrow morning shows a snow advisory for 1-2 inches. Is this meet still on from 10am till 2ish? Thought I would just check the status before making the haul from Atlanta.

Not trying to snow on the party,however------

NC Governor is saying to stay off the roads. Especially expressways as the state lacks the equipment to quickly clear snowy roads. He specifically warned not to expect a "rescue" if you get stuck as the State nor Local Police have the manpower to help out those who don't heed his warnings. Best have a back-up plan if you get stuck somewhere. Just 'sayin.

North Carolina Snow

All weather reports from the middle of the state thru the east & south is predicting snow warnings. It appears that Rockingham will be getting snow.
Rich is suppose to talk with Mrs. Jones later and give an update. I'm not going to try it at all tomorrow. Rich may go on up and take pics & get an idea of what is actually there.

I would like to go as well, however, our forecast is not too good either. It isn't 8 inches of snow that bothers me . It's the ten degree temperatures that will follow. They started salting all the roads here last night. Yeah, the salt melts the snow, but then the cold turns it into ice. Not kool.

snow in NC...

firedome's profile picture
my folks lived in Greensboro NC for 8 yrs, both having been born & raised in Melrose Mass 1920s to 50s. When NC got an inch or 3 of snow folks tended to go absolutely berserk, having little to no snow removal equipment, no snow driving experience and no proper snow tires, much less the studded tires we Northern New Englanders truly love. Be careful!!

I just spoke with Mrs. Jones and she'd like for us to wait until next Saturday, same place, same time. I think this is best anyway as the forecast is calling for freezing rain in that area. Snow is okay, but no one can go on ice.

Wow, my Mom had one almost exactly like that for many years... brings back good memories!

"Moparwash" thanks, that one went to Sweden a couple years ago, to be replaced by another '58 (my favorite year) an Olds Super 88. Had a '58 DeSoto before that (hence my AW.o "handle"),

Good luck at the NC "meetup" folks! Nice of everyone to help out Ron's parents!
Would love to come and get a pink or yellow '58 FD 40" range, but....

Would LOVE more photos of the Super 88!  Before I learned to drive my parents had a 98 of this vintage.  It also was a 4-door sedan.  Unfortunately for me, they traded it off before I got even my learners' permit.  Ours had problems that my dad could neither repair nor explain, and we were not in a position to take it to the dealer or other such "real" mechanic.  Those were awesome automobiles.
