I am wondering if anyone has used solid state replacements or alternatives for centrifugal motor switches on appliances? I do remember that in the forums on the Bowl Tech site at bowltech.com many bowling technicians have used solid state starters or alternatives to replace centrifugal motor switches on their Brunswick & AMF pinsetters. Also, probably a reversing relay circuit or reversing solid state starter to replace centrifugal switches on Norge,Maytag & other washers that reverse
the motors between spin & agitate cycles?

In-Sink-Erator Evolution series disposers have a solid state start and reversing switch.Just a module on the bottom end bell of the motor.Suppose its the same or similar to the ones used in pinsetters.I believe the motors in some new pinsetters can be ordered as three phase.Eliminates motor start switches-just need a switch top reverse the polarity of one of the phases to reverse start the motor.SS starters can fail, too! You figure a large bowling alley is likely to be fed with 208/120V threep hase-so its better to have three phase motors!!Esp at how many you are going to hve-better efficiency and reliability. The single phase motored pinsetters would be for very small alleys and home ones-According to both AMF and Brunswick-they have built and installed lanes in large private homes-folks no doubt wealthy enough to afford the equipment and it would be their main hobby.Would think these units would have single phase motors.
