Because my Cuisinart quit working (see this thread)

www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T...

I thought it was time for something new. So I bought a Magimix. Because I live alone I opted for the 3200XL, very similar to my Cuisinart DLC-2011.

Here's a picture of it on my countertop.

And this is the link to this model on the American website.

www.magimix.com/usa/products/PREP...

The Magimix is about the same price here as the Cuisinart was, but the Cuisinart is not longer available here. Before I used it I already noticed some differences. The Magimix is a bit heavier and the bowls are of a kind of plastic that is a bit more flexible. The Magimix also comes with a few more accessories like three bowls. Not that I need that all (I could have done without the middle sized bowl.

As an extra I ordered the Parmesan disc. There was also a promotion, I had to fill out a form online, they will send me the Creative Kit for free.

So far so good!

Magimix is RobotCoupe's home product, right?

Looks nice!

Hey Louis

I've had my 5200 for 9 years now and it's never missed a beat. The middle bowl is only for grating, you can't grate without it. Once you get the hang of it, you can grate without dirtying the large bowl and it's much easier to have the medium one in the dishwasher. Just be aware of two things, the bowls will get cloudy if you put them in the dishwasher and if you keep it in a cupboard with a low clearance, it's easy to crack the base of the mini bowl. I stopped the cloudiness for years using finish liquid and low temp cycles on the Miele. It only took one high temp cycle with a quantum tablet for the cloudiness to start.

I love how quiet the big induction motor is, just a quiet hum and it'll run for hours if you're processing big batches.

I only wish I'd gotten the XL, but back then it was nearly $1000 vs $700 for the standard 5200.

Enjoy

Cheers

Nathan

Actually Magimix and Robot Coupe are sister companies owned by Hameur S.A. in Luxemburg. But yes, they are related.

Thanks Nathan for the tips. I'll try and hand wash them, but the Cuisinart parts ended up in the dishwasher at a certain moment too. A separate wash in the dishwasher on a low temperature is too much of a hassle for me.

The Magimix makes a similar sound as the Cuisinart did. Typical induction motor sound, indeed a quiet hum.

A big difference between the Cuisinart and the Magimix is that my Cuisinart was one of those models on which you needed to remove the big pusher before you could open the lid. I always found that annoying. Now I can just turn the lid.

And they stand behind their products. Magimix gives 30 years warranty on the motor, Cuisinart only 10.

30 year guarantees

on HSN they used to sell Ultrex cookware with a 30 year guarantee. What good is that when the company goes bankrupt?

Robot Coupe had a nice warranty too. Maintaining that guarantee does cost the company which one reason their products cost more upfront.
