This is the last "good" KitchenAid Superba--made from 1995-1997. It is a model KUDS230B. I felt that they had finally perfected the pushbutton control with this model. When the door is unlatched, only the START button pops out--the cycle and options remain selected. So when, say, someone else opens the machine to add one more thing, they won't restart the machine with the Normal button when you started the machine on Soak & Scrub. You can see that by this late-23 series, the upper rack has Whirlpool-style tracks (which I don't think is either a good or bad thing). T. |

I too have this exact machine in my garage, although it has the black control panel. You are right about it only having one rinse. I thought that was odd. It also takes too long to get started washing as it sits there to heat the water first. I will be putting it up for sale soon. I found another KA model that I like much better. It's even Hobart made. I will post more pictures of it soon. Ever hear of a KDIS21 ??? Patrick |

Kelly's machine is a KUDS22. The Superba linked to in chachp's other post (conveniently relinked below) is an early KUDS23. It's only outward difference from the KUDS22 are in the indicator lights (Heating Water, Wash/Rinse, Dry, Cycle Complete, and Please Wait). The white-on-white Superba linked at the top of this thread is a late KUDS23. All 23 series had a Whirlpool-derived pump, the early models had a 22-style control panel, and the later series had the redesigned panel similar to the 22-series Architect model. The early 23 series was made from 1993-1995 and are designated by a "Y" in the 7th digit of the model number. Late 23 series were made from 1995-1997 and have a "B" in the 7th digit of the model number. All late 23 models are monochromatic white, almond, or black. It seems to me that the changes between early 23 and late 23 were significant enough to warrant a new series number, but what do I know? Incidentally, I'm working on a KitchenAid spotters guide with control panel pictures and brief descriptions that I hope to have done before summer is over, covering the 15 through 23 series. By the 22 and especially 23 series, KitchenAid was out of control with different model numbers, some models with only the subtlest differences. The late 23 series has something like 9 different models. Craziness. CLICK HERE TO GO TO deeptub's LINK on eBay |

HANG ONTO THAT ONE DUDE!!! What a nice machine! Very classy looking! I like the look of some of the first computer controlled machines. The vacuum fluorescent displays really set them off nicely |

..I wish I had a better picture of this machine but I don't. I was told by the sales person that this model was also short lived because they had trouble with the computer controls and the board alone was about $450 to replace. I bought this in 1998. It is in the condo I sold and to the best of my knowledge still has not had a repair. This was a great machine. It is very quiet and cleaned everything I put in.

Wow, I am really excited now if that's true that I have a dishwasher that was pulled off the market. It has been well used and needs lot's of clean up so I apologize for the pictures in the before condition. It will look much better once I detail clean it. It appears to work just fine so this unit must not have had any problems. Patrick

I started out only wanting to find and buy an early Frigidaire washer and dryer set. Now I'm buying multiple dishwashers (have a WP and a reverse rack Maytag too), and have many sets of W&D's as well as a Kirby Tradition, a couple of Electrolux vacuums and other miscellaneous stuff too numerous to mention. My friends think I'm crazy and my significant other did too at first, but now even he has become interested and supportive. Thanks to everyone here at Automatic Washer.org for all you do and mean to me !!! Patrick |

Patrick, that micro mesh on your Imperial Selectra is vital. The space below it is the soil collection chamber--during washing and rinsing, water is pumped up through it by the drain impeller. If the micro filter is compromised in any way, anything that can pass through the turquoise drain strainer can float right out of the pump top and then be pulled in by the wash impeller and sent on to collect in the wash arms. It is also because of that microfilter that KitchenAid could get by with 1 rinse. I haven't come across any satisfactory material to replace this mesh with--best to get a new pump top. The new part (used on all 22 series) has a finer, sturdier mesh than the original. Whereas every 21 model I've seen has a torn or missing microfilter, every 22 series I've seen has a completely intact microfilter. T. CLICK HERE TO GO TO deeptub's LINK |

Did WP produce that Kuds21 and still use Hobart parts?..or was this early model still being made by Hobart? |

Brent, I currently have the Maytag WU404 installed in my kitchen. I love the sound of that machine running and the clicking of it's timer. It is a very good performer and it's porcelain shines as though it's brand new. I certainly won't be parting with it. I'll just have to keep rotating them. agiflow, The KDIS21 was made by Hobart before they sold out to Whirlpool. The KUDS23 was made by Whirlpool still using some of Hobarts original design. |

I don't know the year this was made. Does anyone know how to decode this? If I post the serial number would that help? Bob (appnut), How long ago was it that you downloaded a user manual for this and where from? I would love to get one myself. Do you still have one you could email to me or tell me where to get it. thanks, Patrick |

Bob, Thanks for the info on the user guide. Great info to have. I appreciate it. Austin, Thanks for the compliment. It is beautiful. I was looking for one with no dial and a chrome surround and this is what I found. I feel very lucky. Tom, Thanks for your wealth of knowledge on the KA's in general. I will look for a date code when I'm cleaning everything up. I went ahead and ordered the micro filter from Repair Clinic and it should be on it's way. Looking forward to getting this baby installed and running. |
