Very interesting house. Take a look at the kitchen appliances. They look new.

Spectacular?

Spectacularly garish IMO.

The fridge looks a lot newer than everything else in the kitchen.  Maybe there was a stainless Hotpoint Customline in that recess originally.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m guessing the wallpaper is not the same vintage as the house.  Regardless of when it was put up, it’s a disaster!  Fussiness and flash are the opposite of good modern design, and that paper fights and fights with what ought to be the clean lines of the underlying design. The furniture, too, is poorly chosen.

The sunken living room has escaped the horror of the wallpaper, and the mix of wood and stone is what I think the whole house was supposed to look like.  But here’s a word to the wise: sky blue never, ever, looks good against honey-colored wood.

It's a beautiful house if it was stripped of the old lady furniture and wallpapers that don't match the style at all.

looks like someone was trying to take the 'edge' off

Modern design with all that wallpaper! It doesn't seem to go with the house but I am not an authority by any means. The Sub Zero looks to be very current. The KA dishwasher looks cool as do the ovens - are they Hotpoint or something else?

The ovens appear to be Thermadors. If you look down the pass thru by the kitchen table I'm not sure what that thing is under the counter top

Funny, I didn't think the house was too bad overall, and I usually hate older stuff.  The furniture is pretty much a disaster.  Only wallpaper I hated was the kitchen and that pink bathroom.  Would take minimal work to make it very comfortable and livable.  I like the entry, don't mind that wallpaper at all.

The ovens pretty clearly say "L&H," which I've been told was taken over by Thermador.

I can't help but wonder how much that soaring atrium and expanse of glass would cost to heat through an Ontario winter, at today's prices.

The place doesn't look so bad to me.Could live with it-the furniture was more garish than the wallpapers.Like the wood in the kitchen. This home is better than the yucky, sterile,White or SS we see today.Take this anytime-I do like COLOR!!!

it would cost a lot to heat and worse to cool. .Ontario has the highest electricity prices in N.America now

I don't  think I could live with the bathrooms every morning for the rest of my life.

Eb Zeidler

Eb Zeidler is an icon. His buildings are legendary, and withstand the test of time. I went to school with, and have worked on various projects with his daughter Margie, including, of many important projects she's done, The Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. Each room has been uniquely designed by individual artists. The Zeidler family are VERY generous, and are leaving amazing legacies to our city, and around the world.

That staircase sorta' reminds me of an old Motorola ad from 1961.

And yes, I love the house. Some sympathetic, tasteful updating and it would be spectacular.

Dishwasher and Ovens

Yep, it's a KD-12 all right. And lots of Thermador ovens. I saw this article the other day but got seriously distracted by the birch cabinets kitchen article.

Every picture looks like a vintage magazine picture. It's eery. I have to wonder how the house looks so perfect through so many years and surely people had to have smoked in there.
