Hello all! So lately Ive been using my Hotpoint Potwasher dishwasher (80's GE Potscrubber) on a weekly basis We never used this dishwasher at all, it is original to our 60's home. We started using it more frequently just this month, now were using it almost every other night. Works and cleans so good! Anyway, I was so sick of the white and wood exterior and I covered all that nasty looking old style up with some stainless steel contact paper! A total transformation!
Now your probably wondering, why the heck is there a whirlpool dishwasher upper spray arm on the top rack? Well, Im in the middle of making some modifications to the dishwasher so that the top wash arm can be operated. Since there is two extending sprayers that shoot out of the lower spray arm that's what's supposed to clean the top rack. It doesn't do that well of a job for me, and Im taking out the very top jet that sprays the top rack so that there is a direct water flow that shoots up into the upper spray arm, I just need to add a tower so that the water has a thinner pattern going into the upper wash arm to activate it. It already does well without the tower, but when I get it, it will operate a million times better! Yes, we have well water. I have to get some iron out and clean the dishwasher, I havent in a few years. We just got a new water softener so the rusting wont be as big as an issue now once I clean it again. I also do run monthly cleaning cycles of vinegar and baking soda on an empty, hot cycle! |

Did you re-work the power tower so that all the water directs upward into the spray arm? I would be interested to see how that ended up working. I know Whirlpool used a tapered tower which had a nozzle / jet effect to concentrate the water stream into the spray arm (as opposed to lower velocity water which will want to separate out of a concentrated stream and not make it into the spray arm).
All in all though, very impressed with the stainless trim you added and the addition of the spray arm for the upper rack. |
