The first time I ever saw one of these was at an acquaintances parents house probably 30 years ago. I had to do a double take since I had never seen a wide model like that before. My parents had the 24" version in a house we lived in back in the early to mid 60's. Looks like it has the same motor and impeller as the 24" model, just bigger inside.

I saw my first Empress in 1966. I was 11 years old.

I nearly fell over when I saw the tub move out on it's own. We had a Princess.

I often wondered how these cleaned with the larger capacity, the Normal sized BowTie and the same size detergent cup.

The Princess roared... I wonder what the sound level was on these beasts ???

These were all over the place around Atlanta back in the day. I think all impeller machines were pretty noisy, but hey, they moved a lot of water.

Actually, my mother pre rinsed everything before putting it in the dishwasher. That was something she continued to do until she lost the ability to do such things. I always reasoned that the glasses on the top rack couldn't possibly get cleaned with any uniformity. Was kind of tough to load the lower rack too.
