Hey guys,
I have the option to get my hands on a GE profile dishwasher with Smart Dispense for $100. Should I jump on it or pass? The only reason I was going after the machine is for the smart dispense function. Does it clean well? Any other issues I need to be aware of? I need opinions here!!! Lol

Thanks,
Blake

The frontload washer or the newer top load impeller?

A customer of mine bought a set of the newer impeller top-load washer and dryer and it took some time to get used to the lower water levels and wash actions of the new washer. She'd had a direct-drive Whirlpool previously. Once the trepidation of change faded and she learned to resist looking into the window-lid, the end results are satisfactory. They do not use the Smart Dispense feature.

I own a GE Profile DW

a 2011 model. No problems so far. I do not have the smart dispense feature though, but I have downloaded the service manuals. It's basically a motor driven cam pump that dispenses the detergent from the resivoir by squeezing the plastic tubing between it and the outlet orfice in the door. Gravity lest detergent flow to the tubing where the cam squeezes it. The cam run time is varied by the control board for the cycle and soil level selected.

GE Smart dispenser

I had one in the house I moved out of. I didn't like the smart dispense, and quit using it. I always felt it gobbled up too much detergent. I turned off the reminder light to refill it, and just went back to using pods in the door flap dispenser. Just tossing a pod in the door took no time at all. The machine was extremely quiet, and I thought it cleaned well, but I tend to pre-rinse my dishes more than I should.

I own a 2016 GE PDT845 and love it. It doesn't have the smart dispense option, but I wouldn't use it anyway. I doubt there's a liquid detergent that can do better than the Cascade Platinum pacs I use in mine.

It's quiet, powerful, and has the silverware jets that do a great job blasting up thru the bottom of the silverware basket to make sure stuff doesn't nest together. It has the "X" arm reversing spray arms which seem to be quite effective.

On the con side, it, like most brand new water saving machines, takes a LONG time to do its thing (3+ hours on the soil sensing cycle). I wash stuff overnight, so that's not an issue. Drying is just OK; my Miele was more effective at drying.

You could spend $100 bucks on a lot of other worse things.

Hi Blake, I've had two GE dishwasher, a Profile and a Monogram. The Profile dishwasher was AMAZING....everything always came out sparkling clean and dry not to mention it's really quiet! I only used the smart dispenser a few times because I really like Cascade platinum pods.
The Monogram I currently have is from 2003 and still works awesome. It's not as quiet as the Profile, but cleans just as well. So, the answer to your question is...GET IT.... :)
