Well, I'll enlighten you about this which you probably already know, but you'd better treat that blower (Impeller) like an egg. One misstep and you will break it and that includes replacing the bearing in it. I've never done it but it sounds scary. I know replacing the bearing in the drum support spider requires a drift of a specific size.

There are still lots of good [ used ] ones out there, the last few HOH dryers we have scraped this past year I didn't even bother saving the blowers.
If you clean and lucubrate the bearing properly these blowers will last a very long time, certainly longer than anyone would want to use one of these dryers today. I do have some good used ones if anyone gets in a bind for one. |

These are very cool dryers, I restored a brown pair of all push button machines a few years back that will get hooked up and reside at the museum for everyone to see and use.
Yes it is possible to keep most dryers running almost indifferently, but for my everyday dryer I want something that dries faster, has a bigger capacity, has a better cool-down and keeps my shirts from wrinkling for at least a few hours after the machine stops, and most of all I want a safer machine that I don't always have to be home when it is running.
I love and use vintage appliances in my home, and my 1975 Lady Kenmore gas dryer, Maytag ditched the HOH dryers because of all the reasons mentioned. |
