Here is the Dishwasher baseplate without the wire basket, the base spins at the speed of the spin dryer while the middle stem turns the 2 small venturi pipes back n forth. The water hits the spinning baseplate and is spun to the sides of the flared base where the water is forced into the venturi pipes so spurting the water throughout the loaded basket. A great piece of simple (yet looks complicated) engineering !!

You will be glad you waited for Thor

You kept that one very quiet!

Just picked up a selection of brochures yesterday which included one for the Thor Automagic - from around 1949. It features the washer more than the dishwasher, but both are there and for the post WW2 family with a bit of money this was certainly a very practical solution.

And for those who screw their noses up over the concept of washing dishes and laundry in the same tub, look at the advertisement carefully, the tubs are entirely inter changeable. In some ways the UK version of this machine lived on (as a washer only) in the Parnall Spinwasher which Ian posted about yesterday

Hi Al, we found it for Mathew years ago, heres the thread when the refurb started !!
Yes a simple but fascinating mechanism where no crossover takes place of washer or dishwasher waters !!

I admit I've a thing for these machines.

It's too bad consumers got stuck on the erroneous notion that they were washing their dishes with the dirty diapers... This concept might've taken appliance design in totally different directions had more attention been paid to reality.

Congrats on the purchase and please keep us posted on your other tests:-)

I remembered the thread Mike but not that you had the dishwasher attachment, hard to keep track of them all - that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!

Hi Jim, glad you like them I think they are an engineers delight and hopefully were not an repairmans nightmare. Yes we either hear "Ewhh diapers and dishes" or wonderful stories like the gentleman I had this from, it was his grans which she used regularly for the weekly wash and he would sit on a stool next to it and watch in fascination while his gran did the washing - THEN when all the family came around at his grans every Christmas day he was allowed to help his dad change the tubs to the dishwasher for the one time of the year it was used !! he then helped load it - childhood memories, he was still smiling as he told me...

Oh Al, dont say that I`m relying on you and Paul to let me know whats whats ha ha...

Heres a short video of it washing and rinsing, you had to get the water running just so otherwise it could slow down with high pressure as we demonstrate !!

Did a grand job though, should look fab all coated up as new !!

The waiting part is making reference to the shortages of domestic appliances in the UK post WW2. This is a double sided page folded to create the small brochure mentioned above
