Wringer head

Interesting that it was painted green. I'll need to find better rollers, and a "wood block" bearing.

It works like a champ, all it needed was a new cord which was easy to replace. I'll need to keep my eyes out for wringer rollers that are in better shape. There is also a wooden bearing that is missing. I'm sure I can make one.

We had one similar!

I'm not familiar will all the various models of Thor wringer washers - when I was a kid, both my mother and paternal grandmother had the one shown in the following pic (taken from the Internet.) Different wringer assembly - no adjustment to the wringer tension. Either the tension was on or off. Otherwise, the machine looks almost identical.

Anthony, is there a model number on a manufacturer's plate?

Interesting, I've never seen a Thor with a drain hose, only the valve.

Thor parts manual on ebay !

Anthony, thought you might be interested in this - a bit pricey, but I've never seen a parts manual for a Thor.

Thor model

waterwitch's profile picture
Thank you Toploader55!

And Bradross, the wringer rollers in that photo are BEAUTIFUL! That wringer head is an interesting configuration. I looked thru the pics of the catalog and that type is in there. There was another "clam shell" type wringer that Thor was playing around with. The model I have is a "2-1".

wringer rolls

I wonder if you got in touch with Lehmans from Ohio if they would be able to help you with the rolls? It is worth a try anyway. They are online so just type in Lehmans Country store I think it is and see what they say. Happy washing, Gary

Rejuvenating wringer rolls...

bradross's profile picture
Anthony, depending upon the severity of the deterioration of the rubber, it is possible to rejuvenate them by sanding. When I restored the 1928 Maytag Model 90 at the local railway museum, I sanded the top roll on a belt sander and the rubber beneath the surface rot was just fine. (I had to replace the bottom roll as it had detached from the shaft). Keep in mind, you only have about 1/8 inch to play with - any more will reduce the diameter of the roll too drastically.

Also, I hand sanded the rolls for my 1948 Kenmore, but admittedly, they were not in as bad shape as yours on the Thor.

Attached is the before/after pic of the upper (black) Maytag roll ...

Yeah, the rollers on the Thor are pretty rough. I don't think sanding is going to be an option for me. I think my best bet will be to find some somewhere.

Did you find any source for thor wringers? I've got one too and looks like I could also benefit from new ones.
