My brother and I got to reminiscing about our dad and when he worked at Western Auto and asked me if I remembered the old Citation washing machine we had when I was little, I barely did. I remember Mom loving the way it washed and how upset she was when it died, Dad of course supplied another one which he got in 75 and it lasted through our family of ten kids for about six years before it finally gave up the ghost! I also remember our avocado green Citation refrigerator which would not die if you shot it. Did anyone here ever have that washer and I wonder if one is out there somewhere still, my brother said he would love to get his hands on one just for the memories and restore it if possible!!

I remember the solid-tub machines from the early 60's. My best friends grandparents had one that lasted into the mid-70's.
A friend and I rescued one whose top had rusted completely through in a half-moon shape, around the tub opening. It's possible he still has it. As I recall the rest of it was in pretty good shape.

The one I had belongs to Robert now, if he still has it. I think it was the last model before the tragic "new model" in 1967 that Franklin built. Those machines were really lousy. Just another bunch of machines that there were many of until metal scrappers came along.

A neighbor of ours had an early Wizard Citation washer. It had a normal and short cycle and the timer and cycle layout was very much like that of a late 50's Speed Queen, particularly the 57 model including listing the gallons of water on the timed fill cycle.

Lesto that was what was on our machine was Wizard Citation. Of course ours was newer than 57 but still it was a workhorse....we must have gotten lucky on that one....going through a famiy of 12 doing laundry pretty much every day and it plugged along.....what wasnt drying in the dryer went on the line in the basement so Mom could keep up...at least the older ones helped out!!
