First of all forgive any incorrect terminology, I'm still new to my washer so I'll be using terms that describe what I see or their function.

Yesterday I was wringing out a load using my Maytag N2L and the roller head released. Yes, I was overloading it but was just about to stop and release the tension but it "popped" before I could.

After clearing the rollers and attempting to set the head back in the locked position I found that the handle wasn't allowing the head to drop into position. After removing the unit and pulling the roller I found that the handle wasn't retracting the locking arms as it should. Apparently the spring popped off and wasn't providing the proper tension.

Long story short; I would like to know the proper positioning of the spring and attached parts so I can get this thing running again!

Thanks for any help.

The head will drop back in position by pressing and holding down the pressure release bar (red or blue bar) and simultaneously turning the tension bar on top. Should drop back in and then you can retighten tension on the rollers again. Let me know if you've tried that. If you have, try again. If you have then your going to need a service manual that shows how to replace the spring. Think there's a service manual here somewhere.
