The foot pedal is a "dead man's safety switch." You must stand on it in order to run the wringer. I read somewhere that many users got around his by rolling the machine onto the pedal. Does your machine have an electric pump, or is it gravity drain? That will be fun to play with. I remember family and neighbor women saying nothing gets clothes as clean as a good wringer washer when I was a kid.
