While I miss them ,I don't think they are worth the trouble .I'd rather retrofit the controls, panel and grille to a R-134a unit.As you know R-12 is gold and R-22 is silver, to purchase.

When I was growing up and we lived in the house without Central Air in 1978 these kept the bedrooms nice and cool...took one to college and when I gave it away in 1997 it was still going strong!

Not to mention that it uses $50 a month in electric too.

Yes ,I have SEEN them too.I have one from 1980 that I keep from our old family home and it leaks a little with a somewhat rotted condenser coil no longer produced.

I  brazed a charge port, pulled a vacuum and weighed in the correct charge, while charting temps and pressures for future topping off. To fully pressurize with nitrogen and try to fix a minute leak on an old unit MAY destroy it.Ask the guys who work on monitor top refrigerators. These window A/C's are just not worth it in MOST cases. Now please--It is my opinion only-thanks

That looks just like the Frigidaire I pull from my closet into my bedroom window every summer for about 3 months. Still works just fine and does cost more to run but I can sleep rather comfy, its not that noisy and its paid for itself many times over. Had it since 1985 and you just plug it in and away it goes and the room is at meat locker temperature in a couple hours.

Yes Tim,

A condenser of aluminum, metal & copper with blade soaking in condensate water will last forever. Most are not super diligent to remove, drain and place in a closet .What a guy!

We had a couple of those in the early 1980's.  I think one of them might be at my grandparents house still.  I used it some to cool an upstairs bedroom before thy had central air.  It was a lifesaver.

I almost bet it's in the closet in that room under piles of clothing.  Someday it will bring back my childhood memories.

I have one just like it. Mine is a 6000 BTU from 1978. The green push buttons are for the "Electri-Saver" mode that stops the fan when the thermostat cycles the compressor off.
