Have you noticed how the counter top is matched to the range in the second picture of the Maytag ad?

I like that!

I give them credit for painting a perfectly good Maytag instead of buying a brand new avocado Norge or something.

I want that washer!   And it's only 45 minutes away from me.

That is one of the best appliance-matched installations (and build-out) of cabinetry that I've ever seen. Wow, someone used their math skills that day.

I wonder if her name was Blanche before the paint job.

No excuses, if it's that close.

It's probably a good thing my summer car isn't back out on the road yet... LOL

Go for it Ron!!

BTW - wasn't there a washer like this near the back kitchen door in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"?

Yes there was, Paul. And in one scene there was an empty six pack of Budweiser bottles setting on top of it.

Somebody went to an awful lot of trouble to make the back wall of the counter top match that stove.

Early Maytag AMP Washer

combo52's profile picture

That was probably repainted in the late 60s which is pretty amazing tat the washer was in use that long as it would have already been 15+ years old. These early MTs were not only not great performers but had durability issues and were a bear to service.

These early MT Automatics were interesting machines, but like a lot of early automatics the design had to be completely scraped and redesigned. If MT had tried to keep this orignal design in production they would never achieved the success they had.

Whirlpool was the only one of the orignal Automatic Washer designs that was able to be updated and improved enough that it went on for almost 40 years.

To MTs credit their next design AMW [ helical drive models ] went almost 50 years in production 1956-2006 and would have gone longer if Maytag management had been better and not run the company into the ground.
