That was probably repainted in the late 60s which is pretty amazing tat the washer was in use that long as it would have already been 15+ years old. These early MTs were not only not great performers but had durability issues and were a bear to service.
These early MT Automatics were interesting machines, but like a lot of early automatics the design had to be completely scraped and redesigned. If MT had tried to keep this orignal design in production they would never achieved the success they had.
Whirlpool was the only one of the orignal Automatic Washer designs that was able to be updated and improved enough that it went on for almost 40 years.
To MTs credit their next design AMW [ helical drive models ] went almost 50 years in production 1956-2006 and would have gone longer if Maytag management had been better and not run the company into the ground. |
