Schnucks put it all on clearance and at Dierbergs the shelves indicate Power Pearls are being discontinued in the store...

Persil at Target, but not the pearls. Walmart had Pearls, but not for a long while?
Wonder what's up? Targets website says Pearls can be ordered?

It's def not being discontinued considering that Henkel purchased Sun and then discontinued Wisk...Persil is taking Wisk's place in the line up. I've only see the Pearls at a few stores honestly....Wal Mart, yes...plus a few random food stores. My local Target did not have any.

I'm thinking it is more a merchandising agreement, rather than a product problem.

Some of the smaller stores may be downsizing the products due to limited space.  The Wal-Mart I frequent had a full supply.

Around here it doesn't get much shelf space at all in any store.

Only a few odd bottles

Left at the Walmart here.

Oh well. I guess if they're phasing it out we will still be able to get the real German deal at Germandeli.com

Highly doubt Persil is being "phased out".

One wouldn't expect Henkel/Dial to throw in the proverbial towel so quickly.

Henkel recently acquired Sun Products, so there is that going on as well.

Have *never* seen the American Persil *perls* in shop shelves outside of K-Sears on Astor Place.

Could be Henkel/Dial is doing some adjustments and coming out with new formats/formulas as well as getting shot of things that didn't move.

We know from P&G that when versions of Tide or whatever suddenly go on sale or clearance, they aren't long for this world, and something new is coming.

rp2813's profile picture

Wisk is still on the shelves at my nearby Target.  I bought some recently and felt it performed like the bargain brand it has sadly become.

One thing Persil surely isn't is a bargain brand.  Maybe Persil is taking Wisk's shelf space, but it's not replacing Wisk in any other sense.

I think it's way too early for Persil to be throwing in the towel, so to speak.  Unseating Tide as a top seller isn't going to happen overnight, but I certainly wish them well.  I like Persil and I don't buy any Tide/P&G detergents anymore since they introduced their "for both" HE and traditional machine formulas.  I would absolutely buy Persil before I'd ever buy Tide or Gain even if Persil cost a little more, but I tend to wait for sale pricing.

Wisk is rated just below the regular Persil on CR ratings...it's actually a very good detergent. They have rated it very high for years. My Target is now out of it. I bought what I thought were the last 2 bottles about a month ago, but then the whole shelf was restocked. I think we will see it around for quite a while yet. My local bargain store (Ocean State Job Lot) had a ton of the smaller bottles.

Since I started using Wisk after my ginormous box of Sears detergent is gone, I have noticed some residual stains gone. It's clearly better than the Sears detergent anyway haha.

Walgreens

still has Persil fully stocked with shelf labels that say "new lower price"

Post# 929620 , Reply# 15   3/29/2017 at 20:54 (2,577 days old) by Helicaldrive (St. Louis)
Schnucks has stocked it

on the shelves again, back to full price. Maybe they just wanted to get the old stuff off the shelves so it would all have the 10 dimensions of clean stuff on the labels

I guess the universal powder will still have to come from Germany?

Walmart here hasn't had Persil powder on the shelves for months and space alotted to the liquids and pods seems minimal.

Walgreens had Persil (liquids?) in their sale tabloid recently but I haven't been there to confirm.  I rarely go to Walgreens.

Our local Walmart has the entire line on the shelf. Since I had coupons I bought several big bottles of 2in1, and several bottles of original powder w/pearls. I was so happy to see them so prominently displayed and well stocked

There is a vacuum supply business in Virginia that sold me the last box of powder I bought. That was long ago, so they might not be selling it anymore.

So now, the Persil Pro perls are back on the shelf but with the 10 demensions of clean label on it?

Exactly. Indeed, I was irritated by the official Wisk announcement that said basically: we're going bye bye, but you can buy a more expensive detergent instead!!!! A more appropriate suggestion, I'd think, is All (and, in fact, I think they suggested All for people insisting on unscented detergent).

I haven't used Persil, but I assume that it would have better cleaning power than Wisk. That said, it also has a much higher price tag.

I have a nearly empty bottle of Wisk that I got last fall. I was frankly not wild about it. It was a good buy at $3, and did reasonably well with my typical load, which is mostly about freshening. Although much of the freshening it did was actual cleaning, and how much was just the impression of freshness due to the perfume stench is debatable. But I really don't consider Wisk that great. It's was an OK budget buy. But I'm not sure that it really should rank as #2 detergent. Although perhaps the formula CR likes is different. (I got non-HE, and perhaps they tested HE.) I can say that recently I started using All Free Clear Oxi, and I can't say I noticed much of a difference between it and Wisk. Except All Free Clear doesn't have a lingering scent stench, of course.

Since Miele North America was the sole importer of Persil products via exclusive agreement, authorized dealers also sold the stuff including Miele vacuum dealers. That all ended a year or so ago which is why Miele USA no longer carries Persil.

Persil *had* an online store for USA sales but seems that was just to clear out stock, as they've not had much if anything in quite some time.

While Henkel obviously wants American consumers to purchase the stuff they are flogging here, you can still find the "German" Persil here and there. A local shop near us has various gel versions and IIRC some powders/mega-perls. Gracious Home was out of Persil for a bit, but they got restocked and had a full line until going bankrupt.

You can also try where America shop; Amazon.com for a decent selection of Persil both German and American versions.

When I was at my local Target this weekend they DID have a few Persil items on clearance. The larger 2-in-1 bottle and the pacs. Maybe they are getting a new formula? They also moved Persil into the aisle as opposed to an end cap. They have it with Tide now.

I've been very happy with Wisk and it cleans noticeably better than the Sears powder I was using. CR rates it just below the regular Persil, so that must say something good about it haha. I know some people don't care for CR but I've found them to be very good with reviews.

I agree, Joe. CR has the best testing methodology and they don't take money from corporations, etc. Let the haters hate. Some here rant and rave against CR, but still like to know what it has to say about a product when it comes to make a purchase.

I called about Persils being discounted in so many stores..I was told none of the US Persil line is being discontinued, they are only changing packaging. Well see.

I went back to my Walmart today to pick up a few more bottles for my mom. No more Pearls! No tag, no bottles....aack! hopefully it is temporary. Amazon has them, but 2x the price.
