I've never a Maytag wringer washer from the '30s in such amazing original condition. Wonder if it was ever used; no doubt it has been kept indoors all these years.

The photos are an excellent reference as to original color - very close to what I chose for my restoration projects. (Valspar "Leafy Rise" from Lowe's)

This Maytag wringer is truly in remarkable condition! If it was used it sure couldn't have been used very often. It is beautiful. Our neighbor had one of these that she started to use after her early 60's Kenmore wringer broke down. The Maytag had belonged to her mother and when the Kenmore gave up the ghost her husband brought out the Maytag and she used this machine for about another 10 yrs. But Bev's was no where near this pristine condition. What a beauty!

Looks like you're trying to sell one of yours Brad.

Meticulous just like all of your restos.

Thanks Eddie (toploader55)! I'll take that as a great compliment! I certainly hope this machine goes to an appreciative buyer.

Maytag Did A Huge Business In Trade-In Conventional Washers

My copy of sales/service/parts manual as assumes others of the period gives detailed instructions on how to "restore" older trade-in units for resale. Maytag corporate admonished, nudged, or whatever dealers that they shouldn't leave money on the table by not taking in older units, refurbishing and selling on.

Maytag (surprise, surprise) sold a wide variety of polishes, tools, equipment, paints, levelers, decals, motors, parts, etc... everything anyone would need to restore a wringer washer. Directions were given to build a "test" transmission work up in order to work on the wringer alone if one didn't have a washer spare.

My book goes into detail on how to spiff up the cast and other aluminum tubs/crowns. Same for the agitators as well IIRC.

Because Maytag wringer washers were the cream of the crop/TOL women who couldn't get His Nibbs to spring for a new unit, might get the mousetrap loosened enough for a refurbished washer. Of course the man looking to score Brownie Points with the wife, but not flush with cash could do the same.

Thanks for the input, Launderess!

Yes, I do recall that now - in fact Geoff Delp has mentioned it as well in past posts. This unit could very well be a refurbished model. In any case - ain't she a beaut!
