Southwestern Minnesota has a large Mexican population so we see Mexican Coke---made with real sugar---all over the place. Haven't had any since last year's pre-diabetes diagnosis, but I recall that it had the mouth-feel of Coke back when I was a tyke in the 1960's.

OH--That Coke.

iheartmaytag's profile picture

I have heard some say it has a better flavor because it is in glass bottles and they use real sugar.

The one I tasted from a Mexican market tasted  more strongly of syrup, or less watered.

+1 Iheartmaytag

It is available at my local Giant Eagle for a buck and a quarter for 355ML in a glass bottle.

Sugar Coke

In Aust we still have real sugar Coke even post mix crap is sugar. It is SO much nicer than the American Coke! The sickly sweet tate of USA Coke is not pleasant.

Publix sells the Mexican Coke here in Florida and when I lived in Pennsylvania, Wegamns sold it. It tastes so much better than the American Coke. I believe I paid $1.36 per bottle.

If you are seeing "Mexican" Coke Cola

Where you normally wouldn't, it is because Passover is soon approaching. Apparently the sugar based formula is Kosher and or otherwise meets with approval for High Holy Days, whereas the dreck Coke otherwise sells is not.

It's at Costco for $20 a case.

Agreed, the Coke that is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup has a distinctly different taste and "viscosity" than Coke sweetened with sugar.

I find the Coke sweetened with sugar, effervesces and is more crisp than the high fructose corn syrup versions.

Also as mentioned above, the glass bottling for some reason makes a difference for my taste buds too.

I've got a bottle on standby.  US Coke is VERY different from the rest of the world.  It's another of those things we 'voted for' without knowing it.  The Sugar Protection Act of 198x fixes the price of sugar well above the world market value and forbids imports, which turned most of the Caribbean into drug thugocracies and turned US Coke into dreck.  A lot of the same politics as everybody's favorite fuel, ethanol.

Brother was skeptical so he bought one of each, poured in glasses and asked me which was which.  I didn't even have to TASTE it; one smelled like Coke and one smelled like drain cleaner.

It's $1 at Kroger.  For bulk consumption I buy Pepsi which comes in a sugar formula at regular price.  Mex Coke is a 'special treat'.  US Coke is drain cleaner.  Wonder if it also kills ants?

Coke

used to remove rust I recall. I think salt kills ants. They swell up and die.

My dad poured Coke on corroded car battery terminals to scare my sister and me. It ate up all the corrosion. He didn't want us to drink the stuff, LOL.

and "It's the Real Thing"….it's 1969 all over again! Pricey for 12oz, but GAWD if it didn't seem just like what we got out of the old Coldspot 45 years ago.

It might be cheaper to look for the Coke that has a little p beside the U surrounded by the O. That will guarantee you the Kosher for Passover formula made with real sugar. I don't know how widely it is stocked, but it is in the stores that have a large kosher foods section and special offerings for Passover.

In a bottle is sold in stores all around here, but you have to look to see that it's Mexican coke.
The little small bottles are U.S made and do not taste right. (Even being in glass)
I get the Mexican coke in 12 oz bottles.

The corrosive ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. However many other colas and soft drinks also use phosphoric acid in them.

It can dissolve bones and teeth over time, because phosphorus competes with calcium. But I think you'd have to drink Coke continuously to notice anything.

Moi, I used to buy Mexican Coke. Then I figured that it would be healthier just to give up soda pop entirely. In favor of nice cold water or fruit juice. Or beer. Gotta have that beer.

Cheapest cost yet...

Scored more Mexican Coke today at WINCO in Phoenix, AZ. 88 Cents/355ml bottle. If any of you have a WINCO nearby, I'd presume this price would be valid at all their stores.
