Many thanks to Steve (SESteve) for the invitation to see his new washroom, and what a beauty it is, wooden chalet nestled in the rear of the atmospheric garden. Heres a few photos from the first sunny weekend of the year !!

What a fantastic weekend

great to see the photos of you enjoying great company, food and appliances. A great wash room you have Steve, lovely to see your collection, it makes mine look like a skip at the back of the hoover factory, wonderful. And I'd never thought that a green house might be just the place to display my vintage Christmas lights collection.

Great you've had a look at the aeg twintub, i will certainly have a think about the bellow seal, will be interesting to see how effective the rinse is compared with the saturate and spin method used in other spinners.

And a roast!

Mathew

Ofcourse I love the Philips "isle". The oldest Slimstar on the right, does it do a spindrain too? I never used or saw one of those except for a very run down Ruton equivalent.

Posts like this are why I love this site.

I haven't been to the UK for about 30 years. The last time I was there I stayed with a college friend at his parents' apartment in London on Cadogan square. The Wortman's had a huge beautiful kitchen with one of those top-loading Hotpoints fitted into a corner. Of course I "noticed" it.

It's nice to know there are potential new friends there.

That's fantastic looks like a lot of hard work has gone into getting everything up and running. I wish I'd got somewhere like that to house my increasing collection. The garden looks wonderful too Steve, don't suppose you do contact gardens do you? Mind could do with a spruce up!

What does the AEG bellows look like could you make something up from something like a piece of neoprere pond liner?

Well done.

Thanks for posting Mike. I didn't take any photos at all - too busy enjoying myself. thanks everyone for the comments too. I've had the cabin a while now but it's taken ages to get it sorted out and set up so it was great to have a few friends down to "test" it down in London.

Louis - yes it does do the spin drains - I've attached a link to a video I did when I first got it. It has a 1000 spin on it which was fast for the era.

I will start a new thread on the AEG shortly as the spilt bellows is the least of its problems unfortunately. Hopefully though it's all solvable.

Hi Steve (and everyone else).

What a cracking washroom you have developed at the bottom of the garden and a great collection of machines!

Concurring with Louis, I too love the Philips Slimstars and the AWB929. Really characterful machines all of them, plus particular affinity with the HN3156 as my grandma had one. Still watch your videos of it in action, as the one I have has a pump issue and all hell breaks loose (in the form of a watery chaos) when it goes into spin.
The lovely condition 6030 Quartz and of course, all the new in box top loaders you have managed to secure - all superb machines.

The 1504 and its glowing timeline - wonderful, just wonderful. I wonder of the 1600 had a glowing timeline? Will we ever get to find out? Fingers crossed one will eventually surface.

&....

yippeeeeee! There is a box of New System Persil Automatic out there too!

Congratulations on a superb set up.
Paul

Hi Louis

I was lucky enough to pick up the service manual for the HN3156 which describes the functions quite well. Unfortunately the diagrams are not as clear as they might be. I'll scan them and pop it up here for interest.

Paul - thanks for the comments. will defo get you guys down at some point soon as this was just a bit of a test run before the work starts on the house. There is a bit of seepage on the slimstar but it's mainly because the seals on the lid are degrading. All that splashing with the spin drain has to go somewhere lol.

Thanks too for all the other lovely comments guys.
S

Slimstars and leakage

reversomatic's profile picture
First off congratulations to all for saving these great machines . Back in the day when we used to repair the Slimstars we found out that leakage was caused by the drum accelerating into spin too fast. In extreme cases water can be forced out of the drum vent slot at the back of the machine. Its caused by the variator belt wearing, the smaller thick grey belt. I recently saved a new old stock one so if someone needs it let us know. Regards nigel.

Hi Nigel.
From recollections, when my HN3156 was last tried, there was a hell of a lot of water suddenly emanating from the rear drum vent as you describe.
Honestly can't say that that was the only location it came from, as there seemed so much water everywhere! It was a case of turn it off, unplug it and put it to one side to dry out . That was over three years ago, probably four, possibly five.
Once the garage is sorted and it can be reached, will have to take the side off and have a look.

The picture below is taken a while after its antics with the flags dried off a little, but carpet is still wet under the back of the machine ...

.... and here it is today (well, a number of months ago, when you could get in the garage), awaiting its next meeting with mains electricity.

As it sounds like you have potentially diagnosed its problem Nigel, can I take you up on the offer of the belt if it is still available?

Paul

The belt arrived!

Hi Nigel.
A public thank you for the SlimStar belt. Once the garage is settled and I can get to the machine, I will give it a whirl.

Thanks again.
Paul

Funny enough the Slimstar was sold by Philips as CC1000, just like it's wider predecessor. I remember seeing a Philips ad in my mother's women's magazine. I just kept staring at it! lol

Unfortunately I can't find that add back, but I found the machine back in a few other ads.

Oh. My.

I've only skimmed this as I need to leave for work soon.

You really should post a warning at the top of this thread that reading it might induce multiple geekgasms that can only be adequately described in the DL forum.

There's a working museum in Ireland?! Where's the thread???

Geek that I am I'm already envisioning my personal tour:

Ireland:
Museum, Dingle peninsula to see the palm trees, meet some members in a pub.

Isle of Man:

Geek out over Manx revival efforts and visit Ubuntu headquarters.

UK:

Museum, meet members in a pub, see palm trees in Cornwall, see more palm trees in Scotland, and stand on the 'invisible lift' shielded by the perception filter in the Plass in Cardiff (points if you know what this last refers to).

I think I need to fan myself....

Jim

Really love the collection and wash house Steve very nice.

Wondering about that Colston Vented Washer/dryer! I have a Haynes manual with pictures but that's about it. Is it any good? I'd love to try a Vented washer dryer and compare it to a condenser.

Darren
