It's heavy Ken.

I sent an email to ask where it was located in relation to an exit.

Very Nice, Particularly the Price!

rp2813's profile picture

Looks like it's the larger size with the two crisper drawers instead of a spin bin.  That means it's too wide for my space.  Too bad.  No serpentine coil to avoid and the door is hinged the way I need it to be, too.

I don't see any "Frost Guard" reference on it, but it looks like a TOL model so I think it has to be.

"It's heavy"

That what I thought when I first saw the pictures. "Who put that thing in the basement?" Gunna be a killer getting it back up the stairs.

Maybe there's a door directly out of the basement to outside. If I were near Travis Id give you a hand with it. Im sure someone here would like to have it.

I can attest to the weight of this beast.  A twin of this GE lived in my basement once.  Took four guys to shove her out after the compressor quit working.  Not fun.

Poor big bad GE.  It's possible that they have a walkout in that part of town.

I'll email Chris, since he's another local member and a stud. :-)

If I die under that thing it's all your guys fault.

LOL at Kenny!

Thankfully,  I have a friend that is wanting this for his aunt or his parents.  I would like to see it and see it saved.  I've already broken my rule with the 66.  My older women are all upset that I brought home this young thing!

I have yet to get a reply from the owners.

Still no response, but there's another posting for it for $50 obo.  I offered the $50.

Beautiful, and I'd lend a hand, as well...but what's going on?

No wonder some people, and I'm not there yet, give up with Craigslist. There's some who donate and complain no one replies, some who reply and never show up, and some who reply and beg for a response.

Humans and Craigslist. The lottery seems like a better match sometims. :-)

Phil,

Thank you. I find that people on Craigslist are either wonderful or clueless. There's no middle.

I've still haven't got a reply. I'm not sure if they want $50 or if they're looking for a higher offer. Regardless, I've provided my email address and phone number to them four times!

I'm likely one of the easiest persons to make a deal with. They need an IQ screening on many things in the world.

I only wish(and this isn't realistic..just dreaming)that a moderator existed. If a communication of sincere interest is expressed and the seller doesn't reply...the moderator pulls the ad. Too bad. So Sad. No more bs from the seller. Courtesy, unfortunately, will prevail.

Yay, it's coming!

We're trying to make plans.  This is in the f'ing basement without a walk out.

She suggested removing the doors.  Is that possible and how to avoid damage?

I have a nice appliance dolly with two straps.  Unfortunately, I don't have an electric dolly.

Mike,

I am on the move.  I'll be leaving the tower today.  I must return to St. Louis to rescue this fridge on Sunday though.  It's a good thing that I am fine with air travel.

That took a Wagon Train travel of time to make happen. Not knowing the ergonomics you'll be navigating on and through, a rented electric dolly could be the saftest bet. Trump Tower? Ask the facilities manager if you can borrow one of theirs?

Good deal and best wishes, Travis.

I needed to stay in the states until Sunday to pick up this pink monster.  All bets are off after Sunday!

Post# 934046 , Reply# 24   4/23/2017 at 12:48 (2,553 days old) by Travis ()

The seller called me earlier this week.  I was told there would be an estate sale in the next few days at the house.  I offered to pay someone at the sale to assist another friend to get this out of the basement.  I never got a return call to tell me when the sale was happening.

I left another message on Friday and never got a return call.  It's sad, I didn't want it for myself.  I wanted to pass it to a family member of a friend.

I hope it made it to a good home.  I am thankful to the 98% of the sellers that have gone out of their way to help me get whatever they've been selling.  It's the 2% that suck donkey balls.

The 1966 Frigidaire energy hog is happily cooling a case of Dr. Pepper now.  I caught it and a 1929 Monitor top happily having a play date in the garage yesterday.  Take that new stuff, regardless of whatever efficiency it might be!

Jeannine,

The lady behind the ad apparently listed the fridge for free and then was overwhelmed with replies.  I replied to her four times, once on the second ad and offered her the $50 she was asking.

She told me there was going to be an estate sale either Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun.  I told her that I would be happy to come out with a friend and a dolly and would pay another to help get it out of the basement.  She told me she would call me back with what day.

She may have gotten a better offer or an offer of someone that could more easily move it.

I saw that the craigslist ad was posted before you conversed with her. I was hoping that the fact the ad was still up, meant that she still had the fridge and that you still had a chance. However, it's not unusual for people to leave their ads up even when they no longer have the item, so that may be the case here which is unfortunate. Hopefully it went to a good home. Jeannine

It looks like this pink energy hog will be coming home on Sunday.  Thank God, the electric company has so much power not being used.  I would hate to see someone get shocked by the excess.  This can go next to the 66 Frigidaire for an Energy hog-a thon!

Can't Wait!

To kill my back getting that thing up the stairs on Sunday afternoon. Thankfully I was able to convince one of my friends to tag along. Hopefully he remains a good friend after the fact. This will be nothing compared to moving Travis's DR4 into his house however. That was a real treat. I only partially strained my shoulder and we only lost the cabinet once and let it fall! You really don't want to try and stop a cabinet the size of a walk in closet from falling...

Knowing how many appliances you already have I can only think of the soul of that refrigerator hugging you as long as it lets you move it upstairs(avoid being crushed with love). 😎 I can't wait to see this thing after it's rescued. Thanks Travis.

I've got enough fat in reserve...I don't need wheati

I do agree though, the soul of this refrigerator is going to be helping us get it out of that dank basement and into the loving garage of Travis's home for wayward refrigerators. I think it already has a permanent home as well so that is good. My aunt canceled on me in the 9th hour after I told her that it became available again. She is a wonderful woman but is pretty fickle when it comes to her appliances. She would rather buy new but have the old look I suppose. Yeah, good luck with that!

Removed railings and door. Ray and two friends jerked it up and out of there. We found a mouse house.

I'll try to clean the condenser before running it tomorrow. The shelves need a bit more scrubbing, etc. There's one hairline crack in the freezer door liner that I will glue before bed.

I had someone wanting it, but she changed her mind. I am not sure I'll keep either this or the Frigidaire. I might keep one, but not both. I just wanted to see it saved and go to a respectable home, not someone's beer fridge on the porch. It's definitely very pink once I scrubbed it.

I'm not a big fan of pink, but I do love that fridge!  Extra points for not having the pesky serpentine coil!

Travis, I think you need to keep things in the family.  It's a GE.  The Frigidaire is not.  The choice is easy if you're only going to keep one of them.  Just saying.

I had fun!

Travis gave some good will money to both of my friends who helped out. They felt bad for taking it so they gave the money to me instead so that I could join them for a concert they were going to. It is nice to have such good friends! They thought Travis was crazy and I told them that he is a good kind of crazy. I'm glad that with 3 people it wasn't TOO hard to get it out of that basement. Not easy, but not even close to some of the stuff I've helped move. I love the revolving shelves and the fact that it has a blue interior.

Me too!  Between that luxurious shelving system and the pull-out freezer, this GE beats the Frigidaire hands down.

That Frigidaire though...

It is still pretty nice. I would have a hard time choosing between the two of them. It looks so modern. Ah, screw it. I love pink deep down inside!

Post# 935716 , Reply# 49   5/1/2017 at 17:51 (2,545 days old) by Travis ()

The choice between the pink GE and the Frigidaire is a tough one.  They're both very nice.  I can't keep them all.  Both of them are too nice to live in my garage.

I know that Cory will treat it well.

Yes, I am crazy, but I am not an alcoholic or a drug addict.  I do like seeing these nice things go to good homes.  I do think I'll hang onto the GE.  It might be nice to have a freezer.  I do like the contrast of the pink and the blue.  It's especially pronounced in a dark room.  I'll have to find the manual.
