The 1956 Frigidaire washer and dryer. Nice looking set that in back of the white glass dial would light up when it was operating. It had the unimatic mechanism. The very next year brought the famed 1957 control tower machines. GM/Frigidaire always made impressive looking machines.

When I went online for the first time in 1997, the one of the first things I discovered was this article about a 1956 Frigidaire set.

www.kshs.org/kansapedia/p...

It was the first time I saw pictures of a pink washer and dryer.

Thanks for a link to the interesting little article, Louis! I did not know about the Mamie Eisenhower's connection to the popularity of all things pink during the mid-to-late 1950s.

The 1956 console was the beginning of an amazing run of gorgeously-styled consoles for Frigidaire.

Pink Frigidaire Dryer

My latest acquisition was this exact 1956 dryer in pink. Two new belts and a good cleaning and it is working perfectly. Now if only I could get the matching washer !!!! But I have learned if you keep searching you can be rewarded with your wish.
