Phil,

Visually it matches a Model DDE 7900N as shown in my 1972 catalog.  That is the newest this model could be.  However, it could be as old as 1969 (I think).  TOL standard-capacity dryer with the 'Americana' badge.

Very nice!

Lawrence, would the washer have a similar lighted panel? I'm one of those lighted panel guys, just for the cool factor.

I have never found one of these models. that I can remember. :-)

Yep

There would have been a matching washer.  In fact, there were two dryers to match the TOL washer - this one and one of the extra-large capacity "joe mama" size dryers - buyer's choice.

Looks like the GE Versatronic dryer my neighbor Thelma got about '68 or so; hers was white.

Then the label on the left front panel is "Solid State Versatronic Dryer"? I can't read the word after the word "Solid State".

GE Versatronic dryer

I just got this GE model DDE 7900L Versatronic dryer. Works perfectly - nothing needed. I'm just trying to figure out what year it is. It's got an unusual "sanitize" feature that has a little red light that comes on when it is in use. I don't have the manual, alas. The serial number is SL203 643G.

Congrats! Your dryer was built in September 1970.

Thank you, I found that out right after I posted this. Can't find a manual to it, however. But I did find an ad from 1969 that talked about the sanitize function.

The "Sanitize" feature just kept the dryer running to overheat the already dry load instead of shutting off when the load was dry. I believe it operated on a thermal cut off like a high limit thermostat sort of the way Maytag's Permanent Press cycle in the electronic control dryers heated the load to 160F before the cool down began except the GE might have gotten hotter.
