Ok, so I was recently in an appliance store and noticed that there were two models of stack-able thin twins, and much to my surprise both were direct drive still having the old design. My question is, are these simply old ins store hold over models from 2012 or is Whirlpool still making the DD design and if so for how much longer? My understanding is that everything- including commercial has gone to the VMW design. I would assume thin twins to be using that- especially considering the VMW design originated out of compact portables. Would be cool if Whirlpool could make new DD compact portables if they are doing it with their twins.

They are still making the DD Thin Twins. No idea how much longer. And you're right, DD has been discontinued for everything else, including commercial.

Low Rinse

These are likely the models with the low water level splash and thrash rinse.

Thats good to know! DD was a very respectable design when used with low speed agitation. Most likely is the splash and thrash- however, that can be fixed ;).

Question- does anyone know if these are being assembled with warehoused parts or are DD transmissions still being cased as I type?
