I succumbed today to another baby grand. This one is an Aeolian Duo Art.

I need to learn to play.

"I need to learn to play."

Not if you come across an Ampico!

Ralph,

The Ampico is in the shop.  This is a Duo Art.  I felt sorry for it and figured I could have both in the living room.

Very nice!

I used to play, actually quite well.  Have not touched the piano in decades, wish I had not stopped.

Reproducing Piano's are amazing

The Duo Art system is designed to reproduce the dynamics of performance by using control punches on the side of the roll. Player piano's are really a digital form of recording. There are many video's on Youtube. Here is one of a Steinway with the Duo Art system. Another system was Welte.

I already have an Ampico baby grand and an Upright DuoArt pianola.  It's a cheaper model without electric.  A blower box was added much later.

In my warped little collector mind, I thought I needed two baby grands in the living room.  This one had been available for too long as was teasing me.  I have to not type player piano into a search box again.  This one is in great shape and I am praying that it's not mechanically a disaster, meaning I hope someone previously did some rebuilding.  The upright has to go away, but I had always intended it would for the Ampico.

I went out and picked up all the boxes of piano rolls to go with this new piano. I spent the better part of the day annoying the neighborhood.

Travis, be thankful you're not into pipe organs.
