We just bought our Bosch DW at Lowes and they told us it could take over a month to come in. It took about four weeks. We ordered it Memorial Day weekend and it was installed June 23rd. We had problems with the installer, but when my wife called and complained to the store manager, Lowes hired someone else to install it and the new company was very nice.

Whirlpool was having an awful time with the front load washers being delivered and hooked up without having the shipping braces removed. It meant service calls and replacements in some cases. When we asked the big question about training the delivery people, we found out that they seem to have new people each week. I don't know if they refuse to pay enough to hold good people or if they discover that they are illegals or what, but the after sale operations could use an examination. I would be afraid to use any of their installation services.

I have to agree, Home Depot is awful. I would still shop at Lowe's or Best Buy.

bad service

the "big" stores have lost "service" completely, which is why I still like to patronize the few remaining, small, family-owned appliance stores because they are great for service and follow through. If I buy something at Lowe's, I install myself. I still like Lowe's better than Home Depot.

Here in Tucson, Az I got tired of Best Buy and Lowes with delayed delivery. We have two local stores, Tucson Appliance and Christie's. I found Christie's to be great, sometimes, with same day delivery and installation. They are a few bucks more in price but delivery is free so they are comparable with the big stores and Christie's gives better service.

Exactly. Buy from the local places whose employees are properly trained and who stay on the job for years.

It's hardly worth it to save a few bucks at the big chains if you end up with a stress hassle or a damaged unit on your hands.

Guys, I'm totally with you: Go to a local dealer. Yes, it's a little more expensive, but you'll probably get much better service over the long haul. I don't mind paying a little more for appliances knowing that a service person will be at my door quickly in the event of a malfunction. Plus, I just like to keep the local businesses in business.

Reliable Maytag. (that's the real name of the store) Not many dealings with them, but were top-notch in every way.

Am I wrong?

I heard or read somewhere that the appliances that are in Lowe's or Homo Depot are specially made for them and not available in the other appliance stores.
I agree. Go to the smaller stores for a one on one better overall experience that will carry beyond the point of sale.

The independent servicer RULES.

Add me to the list of people who patronize independent dealers and servicers. BIG BOX retailer "SERVICE" departments almost always offer dismal service IMHO.
Personally, I am GLAD to pay more for the appliance through an independent as it is money well spent to have the service issues just melt away....

We Had Home Depot

Put in our carpeting when we moved into this house in 2001. It was right after tropical storm Allison, so the reason we chose Home Depot was that they were the only ones that had any decent looking carpet on hand. Everyone else was a 6-8 week wait, plus they charge mega bucks to move your furniture around when installing carpeting after you move in. We were on a short deadlne and wanted it installed before we moved in.
Anyway, when they installed the carpet, it looked fine. When we went to vacuum is when we found out the installation error. When they pieced together the carpet, they changed the "grain" of the carpet in a few places in each room. It's usually 90 degrees off from the next piece. So you'll be merrily vacuuming away and all of a sudden your vacuum will start "bumpin and jumpin" cause you crossed a seam and you have to change your direction 90 degrees. It's irritating and I have never encountered this before with carpeting. We called Home Depot and they came out and looked at it and declared that it was a "correct" installation and that we need to learn to live with it.
We wrote a letter to Home Depot corporate, and they told us the same thing; your stuck with it. Geeesh!
Another thing about Home Depot carpeting. I measured the carpeting and determined we needed 75 sq yards. But they said that they would have to measure themselves, when they came out to do this their estimator came up with 90 sq. yards. Anyone care to guess how much excess carpet we have rolled up in out attic?

About Home Depot - A Warning (Long Read)

Whircool, do not accept this mistreatment. I hired Home Depot to refloor my bathroom. The work they did was so unbelievably bad that even they had to redo it once I complained. You could not imagine more slipshod, half-a---d work in your entire life.

Problem was, they left me with no sink. The first installers had pulled my sink out of the wall in a way it could not easily be put back. Home Depot refused to do anything about this. I battled their customer service, insurance, and corporate office for MONTHS, dealing with their employees who could not have cared less about my problem. Home Depot's idea of "complaint resolution" is wearing the customer down until they give up. I refused to take this.

I lodged complaints with BBB, disputed my credit card, and even wrote letters to the Florida Attorney General, who helped me with my case.

No customer should be forced to take such drastic measures to get a problem solved. I finally had to hire an outside sourse to fix the sink, of course with my own money.

I don't know what exactly did it, but about six months later after the problem first started, I finally received a full refund credit. The sad thing is, I would have gladly paid them to have done it right the first time.
