Thanks for the pics - looks like a fun time will be had. I wish I could go, as the weather is so nice for a trip today, but after spending nearly $4000. between the fallen tree, my tooth, and now new tires this week, it just wasn't possible. |

The bowl on the Thor if for water extraction. After the lid is shut, compressed air inflates a rubber bladder in the lid to push water out and back into the tub. Warmsecondrinse -The Neptune says hello and the Magic Chef was quite an impressive little machine! |

Well then, after a 7 1/2 hour drive back, I finally pulled into Brooklyn at 7:35PM. But oh it was so WORTH it.
Most importantly, I'd like to thank Jerry for being such a gracious and generous host. This was one of the BEST wash-in's I've ever attended. It was wonderful seeing old friends and meeting new ones! It was a real treat seeing Jeff's (Jeb) Thor washer. John (Combo52) performed his usual magic in repairing Jerry's gorgeous Westinghouse front loader.
Pictures to follow, right now I'm going to soak in the tub for a week or so. Calgon take me away! |

nice time and fun was an understatement.....
it started Friday afternoon, and didn't wind down until Sunday around noon.... restaurants, thrifting, duquesne incline, machines to play with, machines to work on, machines never seen before...always something new to learn and the people....we had a group of fantastic members and guest to socialize with one weekend is never enough....it was non stop, barely a moment to sit down and rest...... Jerry did one bang up job for a spectacular event.... for those of you who chose not to attend, you missed one hell of a ride! |

Hopefully I can attend the 2018 Wash-In, I am not too far away in Youngstown. Looks like a fun time. You guys seemed to pack a lot into the weekend, always an easy thing to do in Pittsburgh with so much stuff to do. Matt |

Here are my pics. First set, Meet & Greet at Primanti Brothers:
While thrifting, came across a BRAND NEW circa 1952 Roper range, was stored in a basement and NEVER used. Beautiful copper trim, even the drip trays!
At the wash-in:
Post Wash-In dinner:
At the Duquesne Incline that evening: Where is everybody?
On my way home, I stopped by Construction Junction and found some interesting stoves and cook tops:
Postwar Monarch? Missing light and clock. Late 40's or early 50's Hotpoint. Some nifty Westinghouse cook tops:

we hit two St Vincent DePaul thrift shops.....the first one you gave us the address to, the second one we found by accident as we were at the ReStore....
it should be the one closest to you Jerry, as there is only one per county....I will try and figure out the address from my GPS... update...here we go ReStore 1913 Monongahela Ave Pittsburgh, Pa 15218 I knew it was an odd name to punch in...... This post was last edited 06/20/2017 at 17:02 |

Hans-- I thought the same thing about the Duquesne Incline when I checked out their website. I am not into heights at all. Great views of downtown Pittsburg, though.

Speaking of heights. The Guggenheim Museum here taught me I had vertigo. I visited the museum back as a teenager. For those of you unfamiliar with the museums layout, you ride an elevator to the top level, and descend a spiral ramp while admiring the art. In the center of the spiral is a light well, a skylight above you, and the first level far below. The railing is actually lower that standard height. I remember looking over the railing and having an almost uncontrollable desire to let myself fall. A decade ago I took my husband to the Guggenheim and he too experienced the same sensation. We never go too close to the railing when we visit now. Just too mesmerizing...hypnotic. |

First of all a big thank you to Jerry and Tom for hosting a very successful event.
This was a fun event because everyone got to visit with each other, the size and scale were very good, I am sure everyone had a great time.
The coolest machine by far was the Easy washer that Jeff brought from Mansfield Ohio, this is a great example of the best designs NOT winning out in a competitive market. This machine is so much safer to use and not as damaging to your clothing compared to a regular powered wringer, it does appear to have been much more expensive to build however.
Thanks again to everyone, and especially my friend Andy for going to a wash-in, although it seems he really had fun as well.
A few pictures to follow. |

Hello Everyone,
I'm finally getting around to tell you all what a remarkable time I had at my first Wash In. Thank you Jerry for hosting. Thanks to those who brought fun appliances and thanks to those who even brought laundry! Having only chatted on-line with you guys it was sweet to finally meet you! This event combined my 3 favorite things: Washing machines, Thrift Stores and Men. I never know how I'm going to do at crowds but apparently I'm not too shy. I brought home several pair of new under wear. Thank you, Yogitunes. And also now I have roll-over action in my KitchenAid washer. Thank you again, Martin. Plus being a native of Western PA it was "home" to me. I resubmitted one of the above pics. That's me on the right. Until next time..... Take care!!
