Is this washer a heavy duty 16 or 18? It's a programmed washer!

Would it have the straight 8 vane or the 4 vane agitater?

Correct Agitator For A GE FF Washer

combo52's profile picture
The machine you are looking at has the correct agitator in it. This was about the best agitator that GE ever used in an automatic washer.

This washer may be savable depending what the rest of it looks like. The balance ring that is part of the inner basket would sometimes rust out if water got inside it. These balance rings were filled with iron fillings which added ballast to the wash basket, you can see the loose black fillings in the bottom of the basket in the picture.

At the very least you need another inner basket to fix this machine.

I didn't mention that I don't have a picture of the inside of this washer that's why I was asking which agitater it has in it or which would be the correct agitator. The washer with the balance ring rusted out is a copertone brown machine, just a picture I found, it's not the washer I was inquiring about. -thanks Doug

I would bet the 18 you're looking at has the 8 vane activator.

The coppertone machine was from last week or so - what a mess. Hope the 18 you're looking at isn't even close to that condition. Keep us posted.

BTW, what is the name of the post or thread number that have the Coppertone Brown/Red Poppy GE washer?

Can the 8 vane activator be substituted for the curved ramp activator in GE filter flo washers from the 80's? I have always preferred the 8 vane activator to the curved ramp version. I have an 80's filter flo that I got a few years back and at some point will press it into service. I also managed to secure an 8 vane activator, with filter and mini basket somewhere along the way

So, can this be done?

Yes you can change the agitator from one to another as long as you use the correct large or standard capacity agitator.
