RJ bought the machine of subject last year on "open-box" at Lowe's or Home Depot, whichever. Sold as "special order customer didn't pick up." Serial is June 2015 so yeah, it's two years old now. Indications are it was never used, but I assume the warranty is no longer valid. Clean inside, had detergent and rinse aid samples, energy tag hanger intact. Front leg bracket was bent, probably from having been moved around the store. Aimed for use in his 3rd rental property, which occupants are to move in Mon 7/17. The wash motor doesn't run. It fills, drains, no circulation. Diagnostic Test cycle ... fills, detergent dispenser opens, element heats, no circulation, drains at the end, beeps and shuts off. Presumably bad board or bad motor. No fault codes, assuming I'm not missing something. Tech sheet says the Clean light indicates codes by number of flashes ... it doesn't flash anything. No loose wires beneath, nothing cracked/damaged. |

I checked the board fuses per the tech sheet, passed, assuming I'm doing it correctly. Also checked the motor for continuity (via the leads disconnected from the board), passed. I have cataract surgery tomorrow and next Wed so am diverted from further attention to it. RJ has opted to call a local service guy. The new renters can survive without a dishwasher for a few days if need be. |

The current status: RJ found his receipt to verify the purchase date. He registered ownership online at KitchenAid.com. He tried to initiate a service appointment via KitchenAid.com and got a response none available. He instead called the local independent service guy. Matt diagnosed that the control board is at fault and ordered a replacement. Not yet arrived/installed. The warranty states that electronic controls are covered for parts, labor not included, 2nd through 5th year. Matt does not do warranty work so the repair will be at normal/full cost. Is there a possibility to get reimbursement from KA for the cost of the part? I suppose RJ should have followed-through with calling KA for further assistance. I could have replaced the board with no labor cost and probably less part cost via online purchase than via Matt. ETA: I checked KA's online service scheduler. There is one servicer listed, based in the next town over (not Matt). Available only on Tuesdays and Fridays, with minimum 2 weeks lead time, first available date from now is 8/25. Have to keep scrolling the date forward on the scheduler until the choice appears, poor design of the service request function. This post was last edited 08/13/2017 at 06:42 |

If you walk into an authorized WP KA parts dealer with a recite for the DW that has model and serial # on it they will hand you the new part at no charge, [ they may require you give them the bad part if there is a core value on the board ], if they give you any problem call KA.
We do this all the time at our local parts dealer. |

John, you mean a parts source such as Marcone/A.P. Wagner? That'd be nice but there's no such outfit here. That's why I have to order everything online when I refurb a machine. The local "dealer" is a Western Auto that sells WP and KA but their parts inventory is extremely minimal, some common items hanging on a wall rack. They didn't know what is a basket drive block for a direct-drive washer when I went in there for one last year. The girlie said "I've been here for 30 years and I've never heard of that." LOL, this is the same guy who has had a "NIB" Polara range on the floor for years, and insisted adamantly when I questioned him that it has a full one-year warranty (maybe it still does) and that ALL parts for it absolutely are available. RJ bought a used VMW machine from him last year when the Catalyst went wonky that he claimed is "2, 3 years old" and got flustered when I advised him that the serial number says six years. |
