Greetings All - I've registered as a new member here in order to find a new home for a Maytag A806 that was just removed from service.
Since there appears to be a following for this model I thought I would place it here before throwing it on craigslist.

This machine is in pretty good shape cosmetically, but has a dent and some chipped paint on the left side panel.
The only mechanical issue is that the drum brake squeals loudly on completion of the spin cycles.
The control panel does not currently light up, but I never have messed with it - most likely ballast.

This machine is located in Lafayette IN (1 hr north of Indy - 90 min south of Chicago)

Asking $75 OAAO! (or about any offer! - just needs a good home)

I have the matching electric dryer, if that helps anyone. Working when removed from service.

lots of people talk about wanting vintage machines, but when one comes available, and reasonably priced, you hear the crickets, because of silence.

Price Drop - $50 or ???

No response here, so it's now posted on local craigslist

Needs to go soon, so I'll give it a few more days before I scrap it :(

I'm really sorry

But I'm a looooong way from Indiana. I'm pretty sure I have a dryer from 1969 that is close to a match to that washer too. :(

If nobody has come forward yet, I doubt that the circumstances would change even if you offered it for free.  It's a head scratcher when you consider how exalted the 806 is among a considerable segment of the membership here.

Good luck with finding it a home via CL.

Happy Ending !

Thanks to all for positive comments!

I placed an ad on craigslist listing for $50 and had an interested party.
A young lady showed up with her parents and boyfriend and looked it over.
In the course of the conversation learned she was a new graduate and was
starting her first job as a high school teacher. While standing in the my
basement her dad asked if I would take $40? I countered with an offer of $30
since she was a teacher. Dad and boyfriend carried it up the stairs and out
to the trailer. When time came to pay I told her it was free since they
removed it and told her dad to put the money towards the repair. They left
very happy and I feel better about passing it along to someone that appreciates it.
Good karma all the way around.

That was definitely a sweet story to read! It brought a smile to my face
:o)

I wonder if the new teacher knew what she was getting? Did she seem to be into "old" things like appliances & such?
(I used the word "old" to reflect the general population description of our beloved "VINTAGE" appliances & things).
;o)
