I have been unable to find a replacement for the upper rack in my KUDS23. I am wondering about a possible repair.

The vinyl covering on the piece containing the left-side rollers has opened up, exposing the metal rail... which is now rusted. If I can get rid of the rust (Evapo-Rust has worked well on other projects), would it be possible to close up the vinyl covering with a "food-grade high-temperature" sealant?

Is it ever done?

Kate

I would think that a "Re-Rack" or other dishwasher rack touch-up product would work.  You probably won't be able to find it in a matching light blue color, though.  Usually these days it's either gray or white.  Slather it on the torn area to seal it up.  It might require a couple of applications.

I know I've seen it at ACE Hardware, or I'm sure there are multiple options for ordering some on line.  I was able to find "Maytag" rack repair (not that Maytag) in blue, but it's a darker blue.  A small appliance parts store that had been in business for many years had it, presumably new old stock.

Kate,

Please check out www.affordableappliance.com... and tell Eric or Ann that "Frigidaire Rich from Canonsburg" referred you to them. They have 1,000's of dishwasher racks hanging all over their store.

Good Luck!

John LeFever (Combo52)here on the site. He is a 40+ year appliance repair professional. Likely he has a good used rack for your machine or for sure knows how to fix the one you have. Do whatever you need to do to keep your DW running. I love mine (got it from John)they are awesome machines.

Thank you very much, BBB, Frigidaire Rich, and WK78. I have contacted Affordable Appliance, who will get back to me, and left a message for Combo52. I will also have another look around for colored touch up material. Hopefully, one of these suggestions will produce a more attractive upper rack.

Thanks a lot.

of these racks (Sets or single). All are NICE to near-new with zero rust or peeling coatings...a few people have emailed/texted me about them this year but no one's actually been heavily interested enough in them yet. I'm hoarding them, so anyone in need, feel free to contact me.
