I got one from my grandparents basement after they both passed in the 90's. It was all tied up in quilts and blankets, like people used to do things back in the day. It had been well used up until the early 60's when my Aunt Marilyn bought them a new Speed Queen set. They still had the matching dryer to that set too. They lived in Long Island New York by the time I got this washer and were using a GE FF washer at that time. The Thor had some wear and the pump was locked up tight. It was a semi automatic machine and they never had the dishwashing basket with it. I am sure it was a BIG step up from a wringer washer, but it did require your attention when doing laundry and had a small tub about the size of a Norge from the same vintage.

We had a Thor . . .

. . . when I was growing up. It was a fine machine. Did its job well, but you had to be there to go from wash to spin and then rinse and spin. I don't remember why my parents got rid of it.

We had friends that had the Thor washer AND dishwasher. The dishwasher did a great job provided the water was HOT enough. I watched the lady load plates with dried egg yellow caked on for the better part of a day. They came out clean and shiny.

It was a great idea, but, yes, you had to be there and tell it what to do.
