I'm really looking for an 806 washer and a 808 dryer. I'm supposed to pick up a kitchenaid kds-17a next week for free, really want a kds-18. I just got two ge refrigerators last week both 1953 and bought together. The wife and I are tired of these new appliances only lasting a few years...... |

Unless you don't run large loads or have large items like king size sheets and/or bedspreads, it's a good idea to keep waiting for an 806. The next generation of machines with the brown consoles had the same mechanics as the center dial machines. The model numbers for those styles that are equivalent to the 806 are 810 and 712. I have a 712 and love it, but keep in mind that these later styles don't offer a lit control panel like the 806s have.
If you only have pictures but no model number, an 806 will have a smooth, reflective opaque glass panel as opposed to the solid textured panels of the lesser models. Another way to identify an 806 is by the number of buttons. From left to right there will be: four wash/spin speed selector buttons, five wash/rinse temperature buttons, and four water level/load size buttons.
Here's a picture of an 806 panel from an old thread:
Here's a picture of my 712's console. The 810 models have almond colored buttons and almond trim around the timer dial instead of bronze.

Ya know, there's something to be said about about the beauty of these older machines not to mention their longevity. I am a mechanic by trade so repair and upkeep isn't a problem, parts I understand is a different story. |

Here's a couple of one of those refrigerators, still has the original stickers on the inside. The pic of the stove is not the one in the basement but one I pulled off the web but it's the same exact one I'm picking up. |
