Single Rinse Kitchen Aids

Means little in terms of rinse-ability. You could theoretically have a machine with 8 post main washes rinses and still have more residue then a single rinse Whirlpool. I know because I've used 3 rinse GE and Dura-wash dishwashers that have left behind more detergent residue then single rinse Powercleans when the cup was over filled.

The low carry over water of the vertical module, post main wash purge which further reduces that carry over, and high water charge (2.2 gallons) offset the single rinse scheme. Most dishwashers that do two rinses do so because there is more carry over water (and often less water per fill ie, 1.8 gallons) thus making it necessary- and dishwashers with the most carry over like GE predominantly had 3 rinses.

In fact GE in the 2000s had models with both a drain solenoid and aux pump. Everything was identical, but the aux pump model (which drained the sump after each solenoid drain) rid itself of one prewash and one rinse. Fill went from the typical 1.3 gallons on the BOLs to about 1.6 on the aux models to offset the water taken from the sump. 1.6 gallons and two fills is about what most other dishwashers did as they did not have several quarts carry over.

Checkrate/Likes I currently have an Amana dishwasher from around 2013 and it's pretty good but the vintage bug is biting at me again. There is a Kitchen Aid dishwasher near me but I know it only has a single after rinse. Is it really necessary to have 2 post wash rinses? I'm pretty anal about clean dishes and worry about detergent residue left over. Am I being a worry wart?

Checkrate/Likes 1 I'm quite sure my 1984 KitchenAid had only one rinse after the wash. That took me by surprise as our 1974 Lady Kenmore seemed like it rinsed several times during the cycle; twice at the end. After the initial skepticism, I was very happy with the results from the KA. I say go for it and enjoy the wonders of a vintage KitchenAid!

Checkrate/Likes My old Kitchen Aid on;y has one final rinse and I've never had a problem with residue.

Checkrate/Likes *Kds* My moms KDS23 does a sump purg to clean the filter after the main wash. Two plus clean filter and HOT water for the rinse. Total "Normal Cycle" water usage 9.5 gallons. Quiet too...

Checkrate/Likes Come to think of it... The Hobart Commercial machines from the early UM series through the LX had one wash and one rinse. Of course there was only one rack to cycle, but still... as long as the sump is clean (after the purge) one rinse should and could do it.

Checkrate/Likes One rinse does ok actually. My 85 Hobart KDM-21 has only 1 after the last wash segment. Since I replaced the upper spray arm feed tube I haven't had any issues with sediment at all. These machines have a good filtration system!
