I thought that same thing when seeing the pics of the washer. I know that close to that era they still made the old belt drive machines too, it didn't look wide enough to be one. | ||

 They didn't except on the electronic control models. Mechanical timer, 2nd-rinse rocker switch, this is a direct-drive.
