The bottom rack like a GE as well as rising tower like a GE, this was the first generation following the reverse racks.

Judging by the condition of the Cutting board top...

That machine looks minty fresh.

This is a decent performer. I installed one of these exact models for a friend when they came out and her 12 year old reverse-rack 'Tag finally gave up it's pump. She was very satisfied with this Maytag, a chronic over-loader and never rinsed, everything came out clean and dry.

I would guess

a machine that didn't work would also be dependably quiet. Quiet in the 80's was like a low end dishwasher is today.
Smaller motors with separate wash and drain pumps make all the difference.
A mid range model is so quiet today, all you hear is water swishing inside, or an occasional knock from a bouncing item, and thats if no other noise is present.

The owner's manual mentions "pans" once and does not show them in a rack, IIRC. I have this model with a white control panel. It cleans and dries very well but there are loading restrictions. A one gallon iced tea pitcher blocks water to the top rack.
