I got the bLowes ad in "The Maui News" yesterday and I noticed something- The dryer that they have mated with the new Whirlpool Cabrio is a top-filter (29" platform) but the Kenmore Oasis dryer is the 27" machine with the filter just below the door.

Personally I like the top filter design for reliability and ease of service. The Sears people would argue that the back to front airflow in the 27" machine is more efficient than the "Horseshoe" airflow in the 29" dryer. The top filter is a bit messy though-leaving lint over the top of the machine. That would not bother me as much anymore, as geckos poop allover the top of my dryer anyway. The whirlpool machine looks like it is frowning : (

Whats up with the claimed "Turbo drying system"? Is it something really new and special or is it marketingspeak for "the dryer has a fan"?

The Oasis dryer does have a separate motor. You can hear it spin up as it's starting. I think it makes a world of difference. Stuff takes only 30 minutes to dry. I didn't know the Cab had a top filter design. Interesting.

More air blown through, the faster the clothes get dry before they get wrinkled.

The WP Cabrio is a standard 29" wide Whirlpool dryer with top mounted filter. Don't know about the kenmore yet.

Separate motor? I assume you mean it has two motors?

Two motors

The Oasis dryer has a motor to turn the drum and one for the fan to give extra air flow. You can hear it start up when you start the dryer. When I have time, I'll make more videos of the Oasis.

But, isn't that normal? Every dryer I have used had two motors I think.

All Aussie Dryers

Which are compact by US standards, have one motor.

Belt is mounted on one end, and goes around the drum, on the other end, there is a bi-directional fan.

It seems to be the european type that have multiple motors. In some cases 3, Drum motor, Fan Motor and Condensate pump.

The first time I really heard this in action was with my ye old Miele dryer. The fan keeps running when the drum stops tumbling to reverse.

Most US dryers have one with a big belt around the drum.

Oh deary me, you learn something new every day. My interest in dryers is not as big as the interest in washers so I never really dug into the American dryers.

European dryers indeed have two motors, one for the drum and one for the fan. A condenser dryer can have four motors, one for the drum, one for the fan, one for the condenser fan and one for the pump.

I have had various makes of dryers over the years which i have re built and they all have had only one motor, hotpoint, whirlpool, white knight, hoover and zanussi..
the only exception was an old philips timble dryer which did only have one motor but it had two belt, one around the drum and one that drove the fan. knightmare to get parts for hence the reason why i have gone back to good ole faithful hotpoint easy to service and readily available parts

Hi RobbieHotpoint, welcome to the club, what laundry appliances do you have know??

All UK dryers only have one motor, the first 60`s/70`s dryers from Servis had the "Halo 0f Heat" technology as did Hotpoint & Hoover...

The motors had a series of belts to drive the drum and fan unit..

Its only condenser dryers that have multiple motors/fans etc...

Cheers, Mike

Mike,

You mean that modern UK dryers still have one motor? I've dug into some literature, but it looks like all German vented dryers have two motors. Quite a difference. BTW, how many motors does your Asko/Maytag dryer have?

General Electric

GE sells a dryer with two motors in it one for the drum and one for the blower. We purchased one last year since we have to vent our dryer out 35 feet to the outside. With this dryer you can vent it up to 150 feet only if you use staight piping with only one or two elbows. It dries our clothes very well and quickly. Dry a load of bath towels in about 45 minutes.

The Oasis has two dryer motor technologies. The "Dual Action Drying System" adapts to your venting conditions because it has 2 separate motors. The "Turbo Drying System" uses the same linked motor that standard american dryers have, but it has a 35% larger blower.
