Hi,
Another son, who is remodeling his kitchen, asked me if I would recommend a Thermador suite of appliances (rangetop, ovens, dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, wine cooler) over different manufacturers like Wolf and Sub Zero. An appliance salesman told him that the Thermador appliances would be cheaper, but that it is easier to get repairs done on the Wolf and Sub Zero brands where he lives, Mountain View, California. Do you have any thoughts on this?
I would like to see him get a 48" range with two ovens, but he says he likes cabinets under the rangetop for pots and pans. They have a lot of room, and they do cook a lot and like to entertain.

Depends on

what their budget is, and what they like. I knew a lady who was torn between Bosch, Miele, Viking, GE Monogram, and Thermador. One or two of them were offering a free dishwasher.

Monogram and Thermador are comparable these days. Thermador is owned by a new company than it's California founders.

Gaggenau is owned now by BHSC (Bosch).

Every thing does not have to match. Some people select a cook top or range they like better, and different brand of other appliances. Many dealers offer seminars where they can use the ovens and ranges to cook on.

I like the automatic re ignition on higher end range burners.
I've been considering a Dacor, but don't know about their reliability. They are California designed and built. I bet service is good state wide.
Dacor was in the aerospace industry first. With the end of the Apollo program, they decided to use their space age insulation in ovens and ranges.
I like their under glass broiler elements that have an infra red type of heat.
Two speed ducted oven convection system, like other high end models, steam, etc.

Mountainview is a very good area, so any high end investment in a quality kitchen will only add to the homes value.

I had a six burner Dacor range top that I liked very much.  All the burners were 12,500 btu.  I had to learn how to clean the igniters, though.

This son did not mention Dacor, but I thought it was a higher end brand.
