Brastemp (whirlpool in Brazil) has put on the market a washer with mini basket for small loads. The inspiration certainly came from the old GE washers. I still don't know how the washer calculates the amount of water in the top basket. It does not have recirculation like GE had.
This video is a short presentation of it. On Rinse phase you can see it filling. The guy who is presenting talks quite a lot since he was live and answering questions from visitors online.

Have seen that in my subbox earlier.

My guess was that the top tub has only one fill level (full) which is probably timed with a flow restrictor on its inlet valve so that even with low water pressure, the tub will always be full.

Thing that annoyed me: The tub basket will drain its wash water onto the bottom load. So if one uses different detergents or even bleach in the top basket, there is crosscontamination. Same with softner.

Interesting, so Whirlpool makes Brastemp? It seems more like the Hotpoint version of the mini tub or duel loads at the same time that they once made.

There are Brastemp washers of the classic belt-drive design in various YouTube vids.
