Friends of mine bought a beautiful house in the country with a number of acres.  This dishwasher was in the kitchen.  I didn't realize it had tilt-out controls until I saw her tilt it out to start it.  Can anyone provide the appropriate model number?  I don't think  there was a Sears Best/Kenmore Elite/Lady Kenmore equivalent.  Although there as a Sears best/Lady Kenmore equivalent UltraWash that did have a black touch glass control panel with light blue color display characters.

Top of the line '"Powerclean"

I don't recall a Kenmore back then having the tilt out feature. The control door was oil damped, and self closing.
Lady Kenmore's were known for sliding control doors on DM made models. This was when Sears was transitioning to Whirlpool made machines. I remember some models with lots of cycle buttons, but all were exposed.

The second Whirlpool series of these had all gloss black, no wood grain.
A narrow 45 degree top edge on the console complimented the then style of Whirlpool slide in ranges, and wall ovens. I recall a Kenmore having it also. It either had top door edge micro switches, or a tilting console as well.

Very innovative for the time I'm sure. Quite a bit has changed since then, with completely hidden controls on top now on many dishwashers that have a completely flat front with one big handle. It would be interesting to see what dishwashers and other appliances of the future will look like....

Discontinued because liquids from counter tops ran into controls & ruined things. Too clever by half.

Model as shown

SHU9900 or SHU9901. Not Power Clean. They had the circular mesh filtering sump screen with removable coarse strainer. Power clean pumps came a little later.

No online downloadable manuals for SHU models.  :-(  Closest to the models yields Bosch models.

If only quality was still Whirlpool's way of life in 2017.

WP SHU9900 DWs

Magic Clean got this right, these were WPs first electronic DWs, they were not building DWs for Sears when these came out so there was no KM equivalent.

We bought the first 6 of these DWs that were brought into the DC area for training, three stayed in the immediate family the other three went to good customers [ one is still in use ]

These were fun DWs [ everyone loved the cool controls ] but no better than other TOL WP DWs of the time in performance.

Note; the tilt out panel did not have any type of damper on the closing of the panel, it would just spring closed if you let it go.
