Thank you John

for answering the OP's question. I feel it's important to not be discouraging with the new folks, especially the young ones. We all had that period of being wide-eyed with curiosity, loaded with what now seem like silly questions.

Thanks Steve,

I am a novice about this collecting, restoring  and just plain watching them wash.  I am just now out of the shadows of ridicule and embarrassment about my passion with everything washing machines.  I am sure to be loaded with questions.  Thank you for your patience.  Tommy

Wringer Washers

I do not have a Whirlpool Wringer.  My collection is relatively new.  I have a Norge, working well, a Maytag metal tub works great, and two Speed Queens, all wringers.  One of the Speed Queens has been rebuilt (restored) the other is in the waiting room awaiting more funds.  Keep me posted if you find one.  I would like to see pictures of her.

Wringers rule !

What a delight and surprise to learn that both Larry and Tim have Whirlpools. Perhaps I once knew and forgot, and so would love to see the pix. For some reason, WP Wringers are rare; in fact, Larry and Tim may be the only members we have who own them. Launderess has posted pix from time to time of WP's for sale, but none were jaw droppers. Seems as though Kenmore wringers, especially the Visi-matics, were more abundant and eye-catching..

Whirlpool Wringer History is something we can work on developing. The top-of-the line Whirlpools were known as Surgo-matics, and Surgilators are such a blast that it would be exciting to see one surging in a Wringer the way they do in the much more prevalent Automatics.

1948 Kenmore built by Whirlpool...

model 110-73230. To my knowledge, any Kenmore model number beginning with "110" is a Whirlpool-built machine.

I bought this at a thrift store in Washington state for only $65.00 and it works great! The wringer assembly did require a lot of scrubbing and repainting of the drainboards. Also, had to clean and service the pump. Made the decal myself.

It's a nice machine in many ways, but I do prefer my Maytags. Without a sediment trap (like Maytag or SQ machines have), it's a bit of a chore cleaning out the wash tub after use.

Here's a pic...

I just know i'd die for a wringer.

Preferably Maytag, round tub (ok, it can be the later square tub), white and turquoise, looking like new...

if somebody knows about something like that or has one and wants to get rid of it, please let me know.

Ironically, Brad and I picked up the same year washers. In the Sears ad, Brad's is in the lower left and mine is the middle one, the "supposed" semi-automatic because it has a timer. Thomas, I have a nice condition round, red Maytag wringer with a siezed or something transmission I am not messing with. Will gladly give it to any member that wants it and the challenge to fix it as it is too nice to trash.

I don't have a Wirlpool but I have a Maytag. Ironically I wanted a Speed Queen but I couldn't find one near me so I settled for my J2l. She is a hard worker she does all the laundry on Saturday mornings at my house. I have no regrets not getting a Speed Queen maybe someday I will have one. I love my wringer it actually saves me time and money.

Mine doesn't have a wavy agitator like you usually see.  It's just a straight vane, but it sure has power.

That WP Wringer

launderess's profile picture
Has been offered in Bayonne, NJ, and IIRC Staten Island, NY along with probably other areas in the local NYC/NJ area for about a year or more now.

If unit one thinks it is was briefly interested when saw listed on CL for Staten Island. Even downloaded the repair manual from this site. However scarcity of parts for WP wringer washers put one off, and decided to hold out for a Maytag.

Had to zoom to ascertain 'twas indeed a Surgilator in there, since at first blush, it looked to be a straight vane, Her little cap is missing, but this gal is in fine shape, AND! she comes with two vintage albums to play while ye wring.

What a good price, $125, ,especially when you scroll down the link to see an unnamed wringer, a near fatality with her drainboard torn smack off and her wash arm broken hideously, all for the giveaway steal of ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY BUCKS. "Jesus, Mary and Saint Joseph! " says my bedtime prayer book.
