My brother recently acquired an older GE washer. I don't have the model number at this time but it has a traditional tall agitator. He said the components inside the control panel are the same as the 1993 GE I gave him a couple years ago. He said the pump is a different design. So he mentioned to me last night that the machine wont start agitation on its own. He removed the pressure hose from the side of the outer tub and blew into it and the machine started agitation. Thinking the water level/pressure switch might be bad he took the one out of the 93 (which is known good) and installed in the new washer and got the same result. Wouldn't agitate on its own but would if he blew into the hose. I suggested the box on the outside of the outer tub where the hose attaches might be blocked. He said water shot out of the nipple on the box when he removed the hose. He did say the hose looks dirty/black inside. We wondered if the "stuff" inside the hose could be restricting pressure enough to prevent activating the pressure switch on its own but still work correctly when blowing into the hose?

that's always possible......in fact, change the hose out as well and see what happens....
any time you change a pump, or any part of the pressure hose/switch setup.....you have to put the machine into a spin for at least 90 seconds afterwards.... then you can proceed to start a cycle..... why would the pump be different?.....that style was universal from machine to machine for about 30+ years....some started out as metal, then black plastic, then onto frosted plastic......4 port pumps were used in all filterflos.... |
