One of our club members, Steve Groff(aka Sactoteddybear) passed away very recently. He has 2 mini storage units that must be emptied before 11/30/17 or the facility will clear them out. His brother will be in town this weekend only. I honestly don't know what is there, but I know there are 2 working Kenmore combos and several belt drive machines. My husband has already limited me to 1 machine! Steve had stories of why each one had a special meaning to him ... it would mean a lot if treasures were appreciated and not scrapped. Thanks!! Todd

Storage Wars

Strongly advise anyone even remotely interested to contact and or work with Nolawashing, me means what he says about storage place "clearing out" those appliances.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storage_Wa...

www.cubesmart.com/storage...

Nearly all storage places hold routine auctions (weekly or monthly) where unclaimed, expired and otherwise units that have gone into default are unloaded. This has become a *huge* business as word has gotten out there could be "gold in them dar hills".

You see on eBay or CL pictures of appliances and other things taken right outside of a storage locker. Indeed our own AEG Oko-Lavamat set came from someone who purchased the contents of a storage locker.

Reading this thread

reminds me why it's important to downsize our lives as we get older. I'm in my late 50's. I have heart trouble since I was in my 20's (perhaps even as a kid, but wasn't diagnosed as such then). My mom passed away and left me with her treasures. The sad part is none of the grandchildren are ready for the stuff. It's sad. No one comes buy to take things. I'm left with having to figure it all out.

So I am actively downsizing. The best way that I can.

Got back home just before 11 pm last night...

Boy, what a B U S Y weekend!

THURSDAY: Thanksgiving, food, family, wonderful time ...

FRIDAY: Went to a matinee performance of "Something Rotten" at the Ahmanson Theater in LA (OMG SOOO funny!  link below)... Then dropped my cousin off at a Toyota dealer in Santa Monica to pick up their new Mirai hydrogen (fuel cell) powered car.  THEN... drove home, got in the truck and headed north towards Sacramento.

SATURDAY: Continued north after stopping for the night about half way up.  Arrived at the apartment about 10 AM, met Steve's brother David and went to the storage unit.   I was hoping (expecting) to find a couple vintage W/D combos and other vintage machines as Todd - NOLAwasher mentioned above, but alas... no.

David explained there was a 2nd storage unit, but he recently helped Steve consolidate into one unit to save $$.  He said there were 5 large appliances in the other unit, but there wasn't enough space in the single storage unit for everything, so 2 items went to a local friend and the other 3 went to a recycler.  No specifics on what they were other than mention of an old stove.  He also said they weren't in very good condition.

I did manage to load my truck FULL of stuff (in the cab too), but half of it is for other people.  The oldest vintage machines there were a 1981 electronic Lady K pair in coppertone (grabbed for Gordon).  There was also a 1990-ish White-Westinghouse FL pair (gas dryer!) in almond and if Todd (Nolawasher) hadn't mentioned multiple times he had dibs on them, they would have been in the back of my truck also!

Otherwise there was a WP DD washer (meh), a mid 80's Maytag 712 dryer (220V), Kenmore black-panel belt-drive washer, a newer (less than 10 years) WP side by side fridge in white, a 50's Nesco roaster on the stand, a Haier countertop dishwasher (grabbed for Thomas Ortega), a variety of furniture, an electronic organ (not sure what is was), misc dishware, books, Christmas decorations, never unwrapped Shirley Temple dolls, plus numerous boxes with who-knows-what.  There was also a compact LG W-D combo in the apartment and a compact KM 110V dryer on top of it.

So... 13 hours driving & 850 miles later... The LG combo, the Nesco roaster, a paper shredder and a variety of Christmas decorations will be staying with us.

Good job!

So nice of you Kevin to offer to gather up items for other members. Darn good!

Good to see also that some of Steve's estate will remain in the family as it were.

Going by pictures that street reminds one of the Brady Bunch! *LOL*

You're going to love that Nesco roaster. Just the thing for your Christmas goose, duck, roast beef or turkey. *LOL*
