Ethan -
I am pretty sure that the basket drive assembly you installed before is an aftermarket unit with a brake disc and lining similar to Whirlpool's earlier pre-fast brake design. The manufacturer meant for these to be used in fast brake machines, but some of the components involved are not identical to the WP originals that were equipped in your machine, including the brake springs. They are not color coded in the aftermarket parts, and may be a "one spring fits all" set-up, though I am not totally familiar with non WP drives. Jim is correct that you may be able to swap the springs, but with WP and non-WP components involved they may not perfectly swap. This is easily done on WP to WP drives. The last part number I have for a new drive assembly with an 18.5 inch spin tube for the 95405 belt and green springs (largest capacity) is 383925. This may be somewhat hard to find, as machines using this drive have not been manufactured since late 1977. FYI that part number 383921 is the bare 18.5 inch spin tube. If you locate one of those, you could transplant on the old pulley, yoke, and other parts. Good luck! Gordon |

Ethan,
There were 13 different drives available at one point, all for the various but subtle differences between each machine. 383927 for example is identical to a 383925 except it has the pulley for the narrow, quiet pak belt --- major difference. The 383926 is for a compact portable with the poly-v belt, and would not offer many components in common to your machine other than the spin tube itself. There are three spin tube lengths, three different pulleys, and at least four different spring colors/ratings. The closest incorrect drive that would fit your machine is 383923. It has red springs for the standard capacity models. Some of these sub-over to more recent part numbers, which begin with 285xxx. I have found most listed on eBay using both numbers. Gordon |
