Forgot to mention detergent....
I use the Cascade Fryer Boil Out for most washing. When I run the Soak & Scrub Pots/Pans cycle, instead of the boil out, I throw in a Cascade pac (this time it was a Platinum pac) for the soak and scrub portion only. I usually leave the prewash cup empty because the pacs produce a lot of suds, it lasts through a couple wash segments. Then I fill the main cup with the boil out. Works great! | ||

My pleasure. I had so much fun watching it on the GoPro app from my phone lol. Amazing what makes us washer nuts excited haha.
That's a great idea about mixing the 2. I'm actually just starting my last box of a 6 box carton I purchased almost exactly a year ago. Not bad in my opinion but I don't care for the smell of the boil out. The Complete powder has a much nicer scent. | ||

I've thought about a GoPro camera for this exact purpose but I've always been afraid the heat inside the machine would harm the camera. I have done a few videos of my KA machines by making a door out of a clear plastic shower curtain and making the video from outside the machine. I would love to do one of my Maytag RR but haven't taken the time to figure out a clear door or curtain. This would be a way to do it.
It doesn't appear as though this harmed the camera in anyway. Is there something specific I should look for if I buy one? Do I just look for a waterproof option? We were looking at them last week along with drones because hubby wants one. He wants a MavicPro but I noticed GoPro has one too and I'm not sure if the camera can be used separately or not nor do I know if it's waterproof. I dismissed the whole notion of a drone because I figure it's another toy that will get used once and put away like so many others he has, but if I could use the camera without the drone, that could be an additional justification. He wants to use it when he runs or takes the dog for a walk.
I'm like, seriously, you need a drone to follow you on your runs? And I get, seriously, you need this many dishwashers for two people? What can I say? | ||

I have the GoPro Hero 5. I really like it. It's small and easy to use. It doesn't have a zoom feature however...the Hero 6 does, but I didn't know that when I purchased mine. You can change the "views" which range from Narrow up to Superview. It's essentially a wide angle view...so that does "zoom" things so to speak. I had it set to Superview to get as much of the machine as possible. It came out perfect (and clean! lol). I also have a diving light attachment that worked well too. I don't know much about other brands. GoPro's aren't cheap, but they have the most experience at all weather filming.

More vids!
So after starting to film the Rinse/Hold cycle empty, I discovered that the lower wash arm wasn't turning constantly. That explains why I noticed intermittent geysers of water in the first video. So after reading a post here, I took off the lower arm and unscrewed the part underneath that has the fine mesh filter on top. I cleaned it out thoroughly. It had a lot of grit and when I turned the arm, it didn't spin freely. After cleaning, it did and works great now.
Here are some videos...the Normal Cycle one shows before I fixed the arm, the other 2 empty cycles show with the arm fixed. MAJOR difference. Amazing that this machine still cleaned spotless even with a limp lower arm! Awesome! I'll video another Normal Cycle to show the difference and post that. Enjoy! JoeyPete - Thank you for posting these great videos. These dishwashers were real power house technology! The one thing I always felt that this pre water heating should have been done before the main wash! I think it would have been more time and energy savings had they did it that way! I just wish they made dishwashers like this today!

I agree about the water heating. I wasn't expecting it the first time I used this machine. I had never used a vintage KA before. At first I thought it was broken. lol. I do try to run the hot water first at the tap, seems to shorten the heat time by a good 5 minutes. But yeah it would take a lot less time if the tub was already hot from a wash segment. Actually in the SS/PP cycle, after it drains and refills for the first main wash, the heat time is like 3-5 minutes lol. Much faster. | ||

yes my family had a kds19 series and it heated the first and last rinse to 150 degrees before the water circulated! A lot of people didn't like the 19 series because it didn't have a drying heater and it was a longer cycle! the drying cycle was about 45 mins alone! and the fan went on and off! the drying results were only good if you used jet dry! By the 20 series they put back the drying heater but still did 150 degree heat in the 1st water fill and in your 21 series they cut back on water usage and had less water changes and I think the pre heat water was heated to 140 degrees! This process is what they called sure temp water heating! They kept this on later models for TOL models and mid to lower line had what was called sure clean water heating and would just heat the main wash to 140 degrees. All the InsinkErators used this sure clean water heating and main wash was automatically heated to 140 unless you selected energy saver wash! That to me was the simpler way!
anyway these older machines are far better than these newer machines! | ||

I can't get over how crisp and clear they are. I actually went looking at the Hero GoPros yesterday. Not sure if I'm going to buy one but based on your videos I might just have to. Did you say you are using a light that was a GoPro attachment or some other kind?
