This dryer was on my local Facebook marketplace listed as free. I picked it up but I really do not need it. I will be willing to give this away or trade for washing machine. It’s in good shape and has all documentation. The inside could use a de-linting. It came with the original sales receipt and the only repair it has ever needed was a gas solenoid. That receipt is included as well! It’s pretty cool that Whirlpool even included a handy pocket on the back of the control panel to store all this in.

I also meant to add. The guy who was giving it away was updating his parents house as they had recently passed away. Unfortunately there was no matching washing machine.

Looks to be an LDI7801 (1976-77).  We had the electric version.

Its companion washer accomplished the unimaginable when it knocked Maytag out of the top-rated spot in Consumer Reports.

That's an excellent dryer with a tried and true design.

Yeah, we had the matching washer, white.  Dryer was gold and bought a year-ish later.  I found it in the warehouse area at the local WP dealer, they had "forgotten" it was there.  Something about someone had ordered it then changed their mind.

That WP vs Maytag story made the cover of the issue because they bought the large tub WP and the short tub Maytag for the testing and they had three laundry baskets stacked up beside the Maytag to show that it took three loads to was the same amount of laundry in it that could be done in two laundry baskets stacked next to the WP. Seems to be mid 70s because I remember reading it in the university library.

Tom, that CR article probably dates to 1975 or late 1974.

I remember it being published around the same time the '67 Snorge was self destructing and I was leading the search for its replacement, which ended up being the relatively rare Kenmore with the gold & rust center dial panel, automatic soak & wash, removable automatic detergent dispenser that mounted in the left rear corner, gold Penta-Swirl agitator and the Quiet Pak feature.

That washer was still going some 25 years later, while the despised Snorge suffered its second transmission failure after only 7 years (it sounded like a big rig was roaring through the laundry room).
