Hi all,

So I took the motor out of my 1955 D&M Kenmore dishwasher that was burned accidentally due to a leak a few months ago. Sadly the only electric motor repair in the area refuses to fix it because it's too old. Anyone know of a good motor repair or have a replacement lying around? Thanks!

I would definitely call around until you find a reputable motor shop! "Old" is not relevant. It can't be any more complex than any other motor they might see come in their shop.

I should have thought of this before - I've had the same thing happen when taking a vintage washer or dryer motor to a repair shop.  So now I tell them the motor was from 'my father's lathe' and that my father was a machinist.  They repair the motor then....

An instance where a little white lie doesn't hurt anyone. :)

Its a bit far but call Accu-wind here in Hamden CT on Sherman Ave. They've rebuilt Van DePol traction motors for early trolleys so age doesnt scare them!

I've long since learned to just plain flat out tell them

Whatever they want to hear so I can get the part I need. Whirlpool is the worst of the worst of the worst on this but a lot of smaller appliance stores still haven't realized that being nasty to people does not make them potential customers.

It's been nearly 10 years now since I was told I couldn't have a capacitor for a 1960's KA as it was too old...and the capacitor was hanging on the end cap behind the yee-haw at the counter and it's still made and easily purchased everywhere. Point of the story? In the 76 rentals for which I change out appliances I have never once since then used that nasty store's wares.

Thank the gods for Amazon and Ebay and Craigslist.

As to your motor, now that the rant is over, I wish you the best of luck. Those motors were produced by the millions, it won't be hard to find a replacement, though calling around will eventually find you a shop willing to do what they claim they do.
