Hey all, since I've already shown my parent's washer and dryer at their house, I thought that I would also show the ones that my relatives have and the story behind them so hear it is. This is the Maytag 4000 Series washer and the Maytag 5000 Series dryer.
My Aunt got her white Sears Kenmore set brand new back in 1979 and that was her first washer and dryer she's ever owned. She's owned them for about 16 or 17 years, maybe longer. But she's had them at not only her first house but at her second and her last house. A few years before my Uncle built this house in 2000, they got rid of their first set. They went out and bought another white Sears Kenmore set brand new. Although I do remember that they were both the 90 Series with the 1980's Kenmore logo on them. About 6 years ago maybe longer, both the washer and dryer then started to have issues. The dryer lost one of the heating elements and the washer started making some funny noises. Instead of fixing them both, they decided that it was time to upgrade so they went out and bought the white Maytag set brand new. Overall, she really likes them both. The only downfall with the washer is she has to leave it partly open afterwards because she's heard that others had complaints that it would smell really bad and grow mold if the door was shut afterwards. Like us, she likes using Tide and also recommends them because she does quilts for a hobby. The Tide powder was previously for the Kenmore but now she uses the liquid kind because it was recommended for the Maytag. So that covers it. This is a type of washer and dryer that I would love to get. Not because they do a great job and not because I'm a huge fan of Whirlpool, but I like the pedestals that they use. |

That looks like a nice set. An excellent upgrade, and yes, it's best to leave the washer door open a bit after it has done its last load of the day. Pulling the dispenser drawer open a little is also a good idea.
My sister has a small Kenmore (Frigidaire) front loader and has always kept the washer door closed after use, yet there are no smell or mold issues with it. I can't get away with that on my Frigidaire Affinity washer. |
