I know, I know....this really should be on the vacuumland forum....but I'm gonna ask anyway. Do any of you have one/ use one of these? I've had this particular unit for years and years. I'm hoping to acquire a couple really specific parts for it. If you're junking one please keep me posted. This thing is a brilliant cleaner. I love it. Yes...I've got the motor driven brush roll / power nozzle floor attachment--and it works (those who know these things know that usually that item is non-op!).
I need the cord retractor assembly (it's tucked away under nuts and bolts under the chrome lid)....and would like a couple of extension tube wands so I don't have to crawl on the floor to use the power nozzle.... |

I do have a similiar model but unfortunately can't help you out with the parts you are looking for. The wands are on Ebay quite often so you can check there. Do you need the upper wand to be curved or straight?

Your Hoover Celebrity in Shadow and Mist Grey is the rare Electronic model from about 1983. The ONLY canister to have a dual speed power head EVER! These are very powerful canisters. I love using mine.
You will need to be careful finding wands. All Hoover wands are not the same length, espicially ones for powerheaded canisters. Like yours takes not only a curved wand on the top half, but a straight wand on the bottom, that is the tricky part. I would keep a eye out on Ebay. Just type "Hoover Celebrity" in the search. P.S. I am including pictures of my Shadow Grey Celebrity QS in my personal collection here at Jae Place! |

Gary and Jae--thanks for the replies. I think I will not go the route of that online
link, though. Those prices! I knew when I found this Hoover that it was a bit of a rarity--which I why I bought it. I remembered them coming out when I was in high school...and rarely saw them back in those days. The one I have has been sitting here in the house basically unused for lack of wands...maybe I'll start scouring thrift stores again and see if I don't hit the jackpot...! What I'm sure I will probably NEVER find is the tool caddy in this colour...or any colour for that matter...will probably mean buying an entire unit online just to get one... Jae--thanks for the offer of the cord reel--I will keep you posted. The reel is still in place, it just wants to retract the cord all the time(won't lock). I need to open the thing up at some point and see if something is outta whack in there that I can possibly remedy without replacing the whole setup. |

Well Allen, then your problem is a pretty easy fix..
This is what has happened. That cord reel is set up so a rubber break pad sits snug against the edge of the cord reel. In the 30 plus years the cord has been pulled out for use and retracted, the rubber pad had deteriorated. Thus not causing the friction to keep the cord out for use. Here is what you need to do, Take off the upper cord reel cover. clean the remaining melted and ruined pad off the break finger, then do the same for the edge of the cord reel where this finger and pad sits. You may use denatured rubbing alcohol, WD40, or I prefer to use clear, unscented, hand sanitizer as a cleaning agent, any will do. Then to replace the rubber break pad. I like to cut a small piece of a used vacuum cleaner belt for this, I generally find that is the perfect width. Really you just need a flat piece of rubber, about 1/8th of an inch thick, and about as long and wide as the metal break finger. Then all you do is cut the rubber to size, and super glue it to the metal break finger. Then reassemble. Your problem should then be solved. I hope this helps! |

Opened it up and found the problem. The brake pad is actually fine. What IS outta whack is the tension spring which is supposed to be affixed to the nylon centre pin has snapped from it. That nylon pin also has a split/crack in it from the retaining screw, too. Here are pics. Is this pin/spring assembly common part for all Celebrity models? Whatever I need to do to to fix this is fine. Let me know if I need to get the complete reel assembly from you or if you could let me know about just getting the spring/centre pin from you if yours is in better shape than mine!

That is a sweet vacuum Allen! I have at least two of these, maybe three, though not that color. One is just like the one CountryGuy posted. Another is blue. Some pics I found. The blue is like mine, someone has it on eBay right now. The red one is a pic from Vacuumland...sah-wheat! Then a couple Jeff Koons pieces... Yes if you didn't know your vacuum is displayed in a Museum from time to time. I know from experience having seen it in the flesh a few years ago when there was a Koons retrospective at the old Whitney Muesum in Manhattan, before they closed it and opened the new one. Ya got good taste... This post was last edited 03/27/2018 at 01:03 |
